Coolest thing to build CP overlay out of.

Found the coolest thing today.  ;D
Aluminium base, a picture of your choice then 5 or 10 mm of plexi on top of the whole thing.
Everything is laminated into one solid sheet. It would be really cool to use this as a CP top/overlay.

I'm sure if someone here was crafty enough, they could outline it with some EL or maybe a couple cathods. Could have a pretty neat lightning effect.

Looks like the same technique used for epoxy topped work benches (among other things).  Take a solid, liquid proof surface.  Put pictures, screws, bolts, old whatevers on the surface.  Pour enough epoxy in such that the surface is all smooth and covering your objects.  Wait for it to dry.  This is an easy DIY project.  However, I had never considered it for a CP.  It would be VERY durable!

That could be really cool. Imagine a diamond plated sheet of aluminium covered with that epoxy.. You could even pour the epoxy over the EL... :dizzy:

It would work, but there might be easier ways to get the same effect.  Perhaps you could use a wood surface and then put your CPO on followed by a few layers of spar urethane.  It wouldn't be as thick, but it would be much easier to control the application.
