IPac only programs 2nd Player Right!?
« on: October 23, 2009, 12:44:12 am »
I need some help.  I've been trying to program my PS2 ipac control panel and have run into a frustrating problem.  No matter what computer setup I try the only button that I can change is the 2nd player "right" joystick switch.  If I use the WinIpac software nothing will program.  All I get is a timeout or program error.  I can however use the ctrl-alt-p text thing, but no matter what switch I try to change only the 2nd player right joystick changes.  Heres an example:

Start onboard program utility with ctrl-alt-p
Press the "Coin 1" button (which is set to "5" by default)
Press the "`" key (the tilde key I think its called)
Hit E to save

Then I go back in and hit L for the listing of what is set to what and the 2nd player right joystick is now ` instead of the default G
If I try to use the panel now then I have no more Right and I get "`" instead  :hissy:

Sorry for the emoticon, I hate them.  But it accurately describes my mood.  I've tried multiple computers with and without PS2 keyboard connections (using a USB adapter), laptops and desktops and even took my entire panel to work to try it there to no avail.  Any help would be appreciated!

For the WinIPAC software, one thing that was messing me up before was the settings. Did you go into Options (lower right corner) and select your board and connection type?

Can't help with the "on the fly" programming thing, as I don't have a keyboard hooked up to the IPAC passthough port.

Yes, I chose the correct settings in WinIPAC.  My previous panel used an ipac as well and I had to use ctrl-alt-p to program everything, but it worked like a charm.  That was a year and two computer systems ago!  Now I've got this Sony Vaio laptop that has no PS2 port, but access to other computers if I need it.

Is this likely to be a problem with me or the ipac board?  When the panel is hooked up all the buttons/switches seem to be fine, all is in working order and I love how its turned out (I'll probably be taking some nice pictures for the control panel thread).  WinIPAC even shows that the correct buttons are being pressed.

Is this maybe a jumper situation?  Are there pictures out there of the proper jumper settings?

There are no jumper settings on the current boards. Best drop me an email and we can first try toi find out why WinIPAC is not working.
