Pac-Man Restoration
« on: September 21, 2009, 12:41:05 pm »
Hello!

Let me start by saying I've never attempted a restoration project before, and I have only built a Mame cocktail cab. I have never worked on a real Arcade cab - But I feel up to the task with probably alot of help from my fellow BYAOCer's  :D

Also I won't have a ton of time to devote at any given point so this is going to be probably a pretty slow process.

Yesterday I acquired a converted Pac-Man which had been converted to a Pac-Man Plus, through a very gracious Uncle in-law who used to be a coin-op guy(He also gave me a stand up pole position!). I haven't taken any pictures yet, don't worry I'll get some up soon.

I have an initial question about sideart. There seems to be be some custom Pac-Man plus art that was possibly spray painted over the original artwork. I can see little specs of yellow showing through. I've read in other threads that citrustrip can remove unwanted layers of paint. Would that be wise to use here? Is there risk of stripping away the original artwork? Like I said pictures will be forthcoming.

Don't worry I'm not going to rush into anything.

Pictures will help, but since the pac-man art was originally painted on, it will be difficult to save (but not impossible).

Try this link.  It's a Ms. Pac-man, but the concept is the same

My current collection:  Arkanoid^3, Asteroids Deluxe, Centipede, Donkey Kong w/DIIK, Frenzy w/Berzerk multi, Galaga, Galaxian, Gyruss, Mappy,  Missile Command, Multi-Williams, O'Boyles Arcade (Mame), Pac-man,  Sinistar, Star Wars, Tempest, War Gods

When I powered it on, I only get a blank glowing monitor and no sounds. Recommendations on where to start? The fuses all appear to be intact.

Maybe you should keep the "homemade" artwork...

Appear to be intact and actually intact are two completely different things.  Verify with a multimeter.

And I agree...that art is awesome.  I'd use it as a template and design something slightly more professional.
