Exporting a game list from Mame possible?
« on: August 20, 2009, 03:19:32 pm »
Anyway to export a favourites game list for use in another front end? I created a list of 550 etc games and to be honest was hoping there is an easy way without manually picking and choosing again.

Help me OB1 Kinobi   :lol

Standard official mame  doesn't do favorite lists.

Do you mameUI?
I think the lists are saved in text files in a folder, but I don't use it that much so can't give the details.  Somebody who does?

It's not Mameui as far as I'm aware, pretty sure it's Mame32 I have on there.

Hmm I remember setting up a favourites somehow (was a long while back and just picking it up again now), or it shows in the tree listing of the games I chose alongside the full rom listing.  :dunno

Couple things:

There's gotta be a file that your front end is using that knows what your favorites are.  If that file just happens to be an XML file, based off of MAME's xml output, you can import that file directly into romlister and then export it to another front end from there.

If there's no XML file of your favorites, then if there was any way to get your list exported as a standard rom name list in a text file, I've been wanting to add a text import utility into romlister.  I'd be happy to work with you on this, but you're going to need to find a way to export it somehow for me to work on the import side of it.

PM me and we'll work out the details.

MAME32 = MAMEUI32.  The project was renamed since there is 64-bit MAME as well now.  So, the MAMEUI project releases MAMEUI32 and MAMEUI64.  Unless things have changed, you just need to find the .ini file that contains your favorites list.  It's either in the root folder or in a sub directory under it.  I haven't used the gui version in years, so I can't help much more than that.

I was assuming you started from mameUI/mame32 from the wording of you question.  If you made the list in a real front end, the details will depend on that front end.  NOP would know a lot about the different frontend's formats.

Sorry for the confusion. This was just Mame running on it's own, no front end. I'll take a look tomorrow to see if there is a file created somewhere.
