Best mame Vs. Games (where u take turns)......

So since my bartop is close to completion I need to make a list of all the VS style games that 2 people can play on it since its only got 1 joystick (mag stick 4/8 way), 6 buttons and a spinner/wheel.


So far I have

Ms. Pac Man
Dig Dug
Rally X
Tapper
Galaga series
Arkanoid
Mr. Do
Bank Panic
Donkey Kong
Tempest (which I've never played till last night when I installed my spinner)

What are your go to games for VS (alternating) style play?



I tried using mame to tell me 2 player games but it doesnt filter out just alternating so i end up with tons of head to head/co-op/fighter games....

I never heard of it till I read one of the high score competitions on here.. its a fun game!

Robotron is fun for taking turns!  I agree with the Galaga series, especially Galaga 88.

When I'm playing with someone, I prefer to find co-op games to play though.

well it's a vertical game but i always have liked tigerheli.

The speed hack Pacman/Ms. Pacman versions are in particular fun two player at a cocktail table so you can laugh at each other when you miss a turn.

how about some more info?   you said you have 1 joystick...is it 4way or 8way?  how many buttons do you have?  is there a spinner or trackball?  are you looking for vertical or horizontal games, or both?

Are you going to place the screen horz or vert? Most of the games in your list are verticals, but Bank Panic is horizontal.

Bank Panic rocks on a cocktail 'cos you can plonk your beer on it - even better if you can have players on each side. Otherwise it might be a bit confusing about who's turn it is. If you only have controls on one side then it's a shame, but then not many horz games are also designed so that the players sit opposite each other.

Sorry, I have 1 4/8way switchable (Mag stick) 6 buttons, and a spinner.  Vertical and Horizontal games work. My bartop is mainly horizontal but either works. =)
