What sound card are you guys using in your mame cabinets?
« on: July 07, 2003, 11:40:09 pm »
I bought a cheap PC which has a bunch of stuff built into the motherboard (like audio).  I noticed a few games stuttering so I thought maybe a stand alone sound card would help.  Got a cheap sound blaster PCI 128 and it's even worse than the on board sound!!!  Useless piece of junk.  The computer is an Athlon 2000+ XP.  I'm seeing the stuttering on puzzloop (Europe edition) mostly, it's pretty bad.  Can anyone recommend an inexpensive card for MAME that works well?  I'm not really wanting to spend $100 on this if possible.

Thx,
Andy

I use a Soundblaster 16 ISA and don't have any audio problems at all. My other cabinet has some other ISA soundcard, and also doesn't seem to have any audio issues.

Unfortunately my PC only has PCI slots.  Why is it that the oldest ISA sound cards are always the ones with the least problems??!?

The older cards have more mature drivers. Maybe a soundblaster 16 PCI would work out better for you.

But in all truth, I have had nothing but success with pretty much every souncard I have ever owned. (Mostly Creative ones, SB 16, SB 128 and SB Live).
