New system arrived today!  Yahooo!
« on: February 26, 2002, 05:56:59 pm »
Just got my Athalon XP 1700 in the mail today.  Formating the HD right now. Can't wait to give NBA Tourney a try. And oh, Rampage World Tour.

Any other games that are really processor intensive?  Those are the only two I can think of right now.

Give NARC a shot.  Very cool on a fast machine. There was a NEOGEO boxing game that choked the heck out of my system too, but I can't remember it's name.

Haven't got the heart to move the overclocked 1900+ to the game cab though.  Maybe next year ;).

Wow, NARC and Rampage World Tour play at ~ 130 FPS on my P4 1.7, but what I find is most amazing... Stun Runner at over 60 FPS.

The funny thing, it was free.  I would have bought a Athlon, but my company went out of business.  I took a job at best buy for 2 weeks until I got another job.
Well, Microsoft & Intel were in the middle of their XP & P4 push.  They hired a firm to act as shoppers and reward salespeople who used the right buzz words.  Long story short I got a replacement for my K6-2 300, and a copy of XP Pro.
The real irony, I'd usually use Linux on an AMD  ;)

Going to order my processor this week.  Cab is half done.  What is the minimum processor to play games like the Rampage World Tour?  I've gotten used to playing it on my Pentium4, but I really don't want to spend the money for another.  Athalon 1.3 GHz do it?  Will be running mame32 on Win 98SE.

Thanks for the help.  Been lurking this forum and many of your projects for a while now.  Great advice!

No wonder your front end hasn't been released!

I'm running 1mhz Athlon (the 1.7XP is clocked at 1.53 I think).  And I get Narc and most the others running fine.

The bigger question is can you get any of those games running with any of the special screen settings or triple buffer?

So what's the verdict on an Athlon XP 1700 running Jam TE and Rampage World Tour?  My "old" 1.3GHz P4 can handle Jam but not Jam TE, is XP 1700+ the ticket or is a 1800+ or better needed?

Where did you order yours from?

Thanks,
Jason

I installed win2k last night but now install win98 for better performance.  I would of done XP but it won't play many of my PC games.

I play a little of NBA Jam T. last night with the keyboard and it was butter baby, butter!

As soon as I get win98 installed. I will post my results back here.

* COOLER MASTER, Socket A Coppermine Cooling Fan
* ASUS, A7A266A, Socket A, DDR & SDRAM, Audio, Retail Box

If you are talking about my Big Lebowski avatar I just cropped a photo of the DVD I found online.  That movie is my all time favorite funny movie. Crap it is funny.  It is one on the few movies I can watch over and over by myself and laugh out loud.

I got my new system from http://www.mgepc.com/.  That was the first time I used them and it was not a bad experience.

It wont be the harddrive since mame runs everything from memory.  It might be not enough memory and your its swapping out to disk.

It could be the ram, I have 256MB but there's the web server and sql server running in the background.  I should try Jam TE without those I suppose, my bad!

Still NBA hangtime and maximum hangtime are not even close, I'd still seek the minimum cpu+ram combo for those.

NBA Jam T and Hand Time and running full blast for me with  the new system.  Rampage World is also incredible. If you want to test your sysem I would suggest Rampage World.  That will bring any but the best systems to a grinding halt.

It takes a quality that many don't posses to really appreciate that movie.  It is so funny that I can think of parts in my head and crack up out loud.  If someone was watching me they might think I was crazy.
