Stargate upright Tech Question
« on: August 28, 2009, 04:36:46 pm »
I have recently purchased a Williams Stargate upright machine with a bad transformer. This is the second transformer it has had and I would like to get to the bottom of the problem? The monitor looks overall good except it has a blown 3amp fuse I would imagine it would be because of a voltage spike when the transformer went. I did some research on what the machine should do before turning it on and its suppose to show 3 L E D light and a digit number "0" before turning it on indicating all system is a go. I did do this by plugging it in and it showed all lights and a "0". I turned it on and the transformer hummed loud and started to smoke and crackle I immediately turned it off! Question is bad transformer for sure? Or could it be a bad PSB board? Or could the monitor be over loading the transformer because it plugs down into the transformer area? Not sure what could be the causes but I have purchased a diffrent and tested transformer and PSB board and I don't want it to happen again! Please if anyone has an idea let me know I would like to see this awesome condition machine work again! Thank you all

I would start by unplugging the PSB, the monitor, etc form the transformer and then turn it on...... if the transformer smoke and crackles then then it's bad for sure. (shorted)

The monitor fuse could be a number of things, but obviously a shorted transformer will blow it.
Not a technician . . . . just a DIY'er.

:dunno I have replaced the transformer and the machine came on and stayed on no problem then I turned it off plugged the monitor in with a replaced fuse that had to be soldered in for the monitor and as soon as I turned the machine back on it blew the transformer fuse. Another thing that's funny is when the monitor isn't plugged in the transformer box you have to turn on the machine to get the led lights to come on on the psb board but when the monitor is plugged in the LED lights on the PSB come on before turning the machine on.

Sounds like bad wiring, which is bypassing the switch.
NO MORE!!
