Feature Request - Enable/Disable Mame
« on: April 13, 2009, 10:39:03 am »
I am finding Mala to be useful for so much more than just Mame.

Can we have an option to disable the Mame requirement (like a checkbox or something to enable/disable), so that I can have it default to another application (emulators, pc games, etc) exclusively?  I'm setting up a new menu system to run all the classic PC games using DOSBOX, and Mala provides a better interface than many of the other Frontends that are out there.

I haven't been able to find a way around it so far, so i've had to put in the Mame executeable and let it generate the game list.  Then I add the other emulator, but Mame is always still present in the menu system.

Thanks for this great application - I've been using it for months now and its a solid application.  Keep up the great work!

Here is a sample of my layout.  I'm not very good at Photoshop, but it's decent enough for what I want. :)

Mala stand for Mame Launcher, so the name of this frontend can been vaunted out, but its a great request anyway.

It could be done. It seems a bit weird to me as I use mame 99% of the time.

Remind me in a few months

Thanks for the reply Loadman.  I'll mention it to you in a bit then - probably once you have all the bugs worked out of the next version.

try setting up the emulator u want as mame

That's a bit more complex than I want it to be.  I can set it up as mame, but then i'm having to mess around with the xml files and it's far more work than it is worth it.  For now, its set up as another emulator.  The 'conf' files are what I use for it to list the game files, and I launch with dosbox and the conf file that launches the title.

Works great so far - certainly gives the entire interface a more professional look than some of the other frontends i've used.
