New Layout: Infernolab
« on: April 17, 2009, 04:06:19 pm »
Howdy-

I finally prettified my FE.

It used to have a boring black background:

But, after some Photoshop work, it now matches my bezel & Loading Game screen nicely (I learned a lot!).  See attached.

Pics of the whole machine (with old MaLa layout), if you're interested: http://s242.photobucket.com/albums/ff97/infernolab/Arcade%20Game/?start=all

Attached is the layout (bkg screen, loading screen, 2 sounds).  I also wanted to attach the Photoshop file for the bkg, but it's 2MB, & the forum limits attachments to 1MB.   :P

Thanks,
-Jason

if the final layout is finished. Just send it to loadman through his homepage, if you not allready have done that. He gladly host it.

Hey, that ended up pretty good.  One thing to suggest, take care of that spacing and vertical centering on the right-hand boxes.  My eye was drawn pretty quickly to that.

Thanks--please elaborate on your suggestion so I'm sure I know what you're saying (I'm a little slow sometimes...).

I can see that I have no gap between marquee & snap, while I have different-thickness gaps between snap & panel, as well as panel & mfger/date.  That should be all equi-spaced, you recommend?

And I think your comment about vertical centering is that the mfger/date is shifted left from the other 3?  Yah, a handful of the mfger names are reeeeally long, so I extended that box leftward some.  You recommend it be centered w/ the 3 boxes above it?  I can see that.

Thanks for the feedback--I totally missed all that.

I think it's the beveling in your boxes that makes the images (title, snap, video) appear to be off center.

You got it!  Box 1 is smashed into box 2 (from the top), and box 3 has a gap.  And the Data East box, the text is to the left of the image above.

Thanks for the feedback.  I've updated my background accordingly, by resizing & respacing the 4 boxes on the right.  I also made them a little more vibrant & added rounded corners to them, just for fun.

If nobody has any criticisms, I'll ask Loadman to update the download on the MaLa website.

Thanks,
-Jason

Thanks!

For the loading screen, I just messed around w/ layer options & type warping & filters & whatnot till I found something I liked.  There were many rejected attempts before I found something I liked: http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=87990.msg928511#msg928511

Just a comment on layout display... I really prefer to uncheck the: Options -> GUI -> Options -> keep aspect ratio of pictures checkbox so that all the marquees and control panels display as the same size when scrolling through the game list.  Just throwing that out there  : )

Interesting--hadn't thought of that.  I'll try it out.

But what about Neo Geo marquees?  They're taller than they are wide, so I'm sure that they look super-funky if stretched to match a "normal" marquee aspect ratio, yah?

Thanks,
-Jason
