LED's in Pinball Machines
« on: March 12, 2009, 02:45:53 pm »
Saw a bunch of pins at the AZ BYOAC meetup that had LED replacement lights in them, was curious what people think of these?

Depends on the LED and where its placed.

I saw a pin backbox loaded with them, as well as the general
Illumination, with white leds.  However, they gave off a Bluish Tint to
them... and it looked horrible.

On another machine, they had used some multicolor leds under some
playfield inserts that looked very nice.

Some games use leds without any insert... and are too intense to
look at.

Leds under things like slingshots (general illumination) do not look
very good because the LEDs do not spread the light out enough, as
well as have the wrong color hues.

They are nice in that they wont need replacing for a very long time..
and that they do not make playfeild destroying heat like most lamps
do.

I wish I could have took good video of the before and after on my MB. It was q night and day difference!

Yes... There are a few spots on the game where I don't care for LEDs but that is under plastics more or less. You really need to get a few to try them out and change them around.

The one's that Terry carries are the best, Pinball Life.

Can you put LEDs in an EM machine?

How do I get started in LEDs swapping?  Whats the cost to redo a playfield?

Edit:   :-[ I figured it out..  just a direct swap, which is kool..

Depends on the machine for me. I've done it to two games in 2 different locations I've worked at. Recently a POTC and it looks great. The other was a simpsons pinball party, which I wasn't feeling so I changed them back.
