RetroGUI Rebuild - HDTV Version
« on: September 11, 2008, 10:48:16 am »
So, I've been working on remaking the RetroGUI theme to a higher resolution to work for me, and I realized that since I'm doing all the work in illustrator I can easily change colors, etc. and make multiple color versions.

Just wondering what people's opinions are of the two color schemes below and what they think of this 'rebuild'.

The standard color scheme (brown orange) is actually already functional and on my HTPC/Emu computer and looking nice (at least for MAME, still need to do all the other emu's layouts).

Thanks for any feedback...and would people be interested in this being released?  I sometimes think I'm the only person running stuff on an HDTV/widescreen setup.

The blue one is really nice.  I think that's apparent by the number of views of your 2 screenshots as well.  If I were running HD, I'd switch to that for sure.

Either way, you should post whatever you do.
I also have a modified retroGUI theme that I need to release.  Mine is pretty much the stock vertical layout, but with a cocktail machine pictured instead of the upright.  Perhaps when you get close to packing up all your stuff, I'll throw you my changes too and it can all be bundled together.

NOP, good idea.  One sticking point I hit last night was localarcade being down.  I need some vector art for Daphne...

I'm good in Illustrator with a mouse and did a bunch of console traces, etc., but getting real art in (i.e Daphne or Dirk) just isn't happening without a tablet - or looking like crap.

Already revised those above and did a preliminary console setup for NES.

Main issue I'm hitting with the consoles is what to show and what not to show...there's definitely a fine line between not enough stuff on an HDTV and the screen being busy.

ANd I'm surprised.  I thought the white 'ipod-y' one would generate more interest.

Looks sweet, i love the RetroGUI skin! Any chance of making a Vertical skin aswell??? I like the blue one also, another idea to throw in if you are deciding on adding a cocktail outline for machine graphic for mame, how about adding a Bartop outline design too, as these are becoming quite popular now also. Loving your work, keep it up

Well, in working on this I've decided that I'm sticking with the orange/brown for the initial setup and then moving to colors afterwards.  I've done MAME, NES, and SNES so far.

Regarding the vert setup, prob. won't be done simply because I don't have a vert. monitor (yet).  Also, I could do a cocktail possibly, but once everything else is done.  It would actually take a decent chunk of work because of redoing all the control graphics (maybe).  I can't promise anythingon this.

I will, however, release the illustrator files I use to make the redo so people can make their own.  That should save a ton of time.

retroGUI already has vertical layouts, so if you wanted a blue one, all you'd need to do is just open the existing files and color exchange them.

and just to tie these two threads together:
http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=84485.0

at the end has another zip file with a cocktail machine for the image.

Hi everyone.
I'm using a widescreen lcd for the project I have started this summer and now that I'm pulling everything together I realized that there are no layouts for mala with the resolution I need (I'm using 1680x1050).
I think it is the first one I have seen and it's looking very good!!  :)
Please keep posting your progress!!
Currently building my frist Mame project :)

Would love to get a copy of this for MAME
