Neo geo cab with mame?
« on: November 05, 2008, 12:50:41 pm »
Ok just looking for some ideas. I currently have a neo geo 4 slot cab that I'm thinking of adding mame functionality too. I was wondering if anyone knows if I could add a pc and mame to it and have some sort of switch so I could easily go back and forth from mame on a PC back to the original neogeo motherboard. So I could have the best of both worlds without bastardizing the cabinet outside.

The Neo Geo pinout and the JAMMA pinout are close, but not identical.  IIRC there's some differences with the sound input.

Ya I've done a bunch of reading about jamma boards and some adapters that you can use. My board is stereo sound vs jamma which is mono sound. I still want to use the neo board, but I'd love to add mame to the machine as well. I just want to do it in the most seemless way possible.

I found some adapters at http://www.jammaboards.com but I'd like to use mame and then be able to switch back to the neo without a bunch of hassle. Just looking for some ideas for a little brain storming.

put a JAMMA to MVS adapter on the machine, and plug the JPAC into that?

I thought about gettign another neogeo cab and putting in a small old PC with just all the NeoGeo games

Ya I don't want to ruin the cab at all..I still want the functionality of the original Neo games but I'd also love for it to be more versatile by being able to play mame as well. Why not right? Gotta do some more reading I suspose. Just brain storming on the best way to implement it :)

I did find this: http://www.jammaboards.com/store/jamma-to-neogeo-adapter/prod_228.html

JAMMA PCB to NeoGeo MVS Cabinet Adapter

I should be able to get this to work with my cabinet I think. I just have to wrap my head around the entire process. I think this adapter will allow me to play jamma pcbs. Not sure how that would tie in with a JPAC or IPAC. Got more reading to do haha.

Ya I don't want to ruin the cab at all...

You are now my favorite person.  You deserve a Whopper.   :burgerking:

Not that Neo-Geo's are one of the defacto classics (compared to, for example, Dig Dug, Tron, Star Wars dedicated cabs).  But still, I like the the Neo-Geo cab and appreciate that you want to keep it nice.

Here's a link to the item Malenko was talking about.   EDIT: You beat me to it.

Andy @ Ulitmarc said all I should need is a Jpac and an arcadeVGA card in the PC and it should work from there.

I wonder if i'd need to have this adapter as well?

Ya I'm leaving the cab as is for sure..same buttons/joysticks/neo board/etcetc..just want to have it be able to play more games..will get more usage out of it that way in the long run..
