Looking into getting a WII console for the kids for Christmas and was wondering whether anyone knows of where to get the best price for one these things.  I thought purchasing it now would be better than waiting for Christmas in case they are no longer in stock at some places.

They are still hard to find.  I used Wiialerts.com to be notified when someone had them in stock.  They send emails and text msgs when a website is updated with in stock items.

I see them in places like Target frequently and I'm not actively looking for them.  They may become hard to find as Xmas approaches but for the last few months they haven't been difficult.

The best price is still retail, $249.

Exactly.  I haven't seen many "refurbished" deals (like I've seen with the XBOX 360), if any at all.  And the ones I've seen on Craigslist haven't been the best deals (cheaper, yes, but not enough IMO).

I also agree that I would definitely purchase as soon as possible.  It's easier to find now than it will be a month from now.

thye are still hard to find i got mine about this time last year for xmas, i used the wii tracker as well, just be ready to buy as soon as you get notified they sell out quick....

good luck.

and dont fall for the bundle deals, you fdont save any money just get the system, then buy the "play" game that comes with a wiimote, then try to find used wiimotes to save a few bucks....

we've had our about a year and it still gets used all the time, although this weekend my 7 year old discovered scummVM on our xbox, its been impossible to tear him away from sam n max.....

In the NYC area they are all over the place - I was in TRU over the weekend and there were stacks of them...$250 is the cheapest I've seen though...

Considering half of the people who bought them last year leave them to collect dust now, just pay a buddy $50 to 'rent' one for a few months. You will get games and the system, play until the kids get bored, then give it back. Its a win/win because then the buddy will be interested in it again once he gets it back.

For the holiday season the good folks over at www.dealnews.com (no, I am not affiliated with them) have started a Wii Tracker where they show pricing and availability.

Totally agree. Or buy a 50$ 2nd hand PS2 with Katamari Damacy  ,the best game concept since Pac Man.

I think you're banking on unclet's kids having the same personality as an adult who bought it for the gimmick but went back to playing the 360 or PS3 after waggling a stick around grew tiresome.   The kids I know who own one (my niece and nephew, cousins, etc.) still play it quite often and are asking about the new games coming out for it.  Heck, I still enjoy it and it'd take more than $50 to "rent it" off me.

Thanks for all the advice.    My kids list this as their top gift from Santa this year.

Having one gift idea which will satisfy both kids = "priceless"    :applaud:

My local Wal-Mart has a ton of them. Try checking out Wal-Marts in small towns around you.

I just bought one to replace the one that was stolen from me a few months ago.  Calculating it new, the value was over $850, and I got it for $500.  Craigslist is sweet.  Every so often, you'll find a super deal.  This was my first CL buy, and I am extremely satisfied.
