Need Help: ELO Touchscreen mounting question... ET1525L
« on: October 16, 2008, 07:49:28 pm »
To give you guys some background, I started a project thread over in the Project Announcement for my in-wall jukebox project.  The thread can be found Here: http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=85482.0

Anyway, on to my problem/issue:  If you take a look at my project thread you will see how I've decided to mount my screen inside the wall.  The monitor I am using is an ELO ET1525L w/ serial connector and built-in power.   I don't know the proper name for this type of touchscreen (I know theres several different types) but this specific monitor has a pcb/glass (touch) part that goes over the actual lcd connected to the touch controller.  It's two parts.

My problem is finding a way to mount the touch part to the lcd monitor.  If I've lost any of you see the pictures below.  I'm just completely clueless.  As of now, the monitor w/ touch portion sits almost flush with the wall but leaves a 1/8" gap.

Any ideas on how to secure the touch part to the monitor ?  Anyone ever use this specific model ?

The pics below show you with the glass on the screen and without.

The touch overlay is mounted to the frame of the LCD with double sided VHB tape. Did you take it off or was it delivered that way?

The tape is still present however non-adhesive.  Personally, I don't think even if it was still sticky it would hold up to everyday use.  When i originally disassembled the monitor the touch overlay was up against the plastic chassis and used small metal tabs screwed into the plastic to hold it in place.

All glass overlays are attached with double sided adhesive tape from the manufacturer. Simple touch will not put any strain on the tape. If for some reason you aren't comfortable with this, incorporate the clips and mount them to your frame.

Thanks, I'm gonna head out to home depot now to purchase some double sided sticky tape.  Any recommendations like brand, or specific type ?  I searched their website for VHB tape but wasnt listed.

As for the clips, there is no way to incorporate them to the current chassis.

Just want to say this thread has fixed the (same) problem I was having with my ELO.

Mine came in the case, and when I started to de-case it I didn't think it was possible 'cos of the separate glass overlay. At least now I know I won't bugger it up by taking it apart!

WARNING:  when you are disassembling the monitor be careful with the small data cable that connects the overlay to the touch controller.  It is a small 16 pin FFC cable similar to ones used for laptop keyboards.  I accidentally broke the pin and lost part function in the screen because of it.

Anyway, I had to find a replacement cable and after, literally, days of searching I was finally able to find the replacement.  Oh on the bright side if you do bust it - I ordered two :) haha.

Back on topic; I purchased some Scott extra heavy duty double sided sticky tape (rated for 5lbs) - I tested a small piece out and it seems that it will work with no issues. (Hopefully)
