Mala 1.04 File Tagged Malware
« on: September 10, 2008, 05:36:03 pm »
I am guessing the fact that Avast is reporting that the MaLaKeyHook.dll is malware is a false positive?  I just downloaded the file from the Mala site and when I attempted to extract the files I got the hit.  The problem is that I see no way to bypass the hit.  I have no option to mark it safe... any suggestions?

It identifies: Win32:Hooker-D [Tool] as the specific malware associated with this file?!

I think this has come up before. You most likely don't need the dll - it is only used in win 98 IIRC, in which case deleting the file is fine. I think you can find more detailed (and possibly accurate) info on the subject if you search this forum on the dll name.

Additionally,  AVAST does allow you to add folders and files to be excluded.  I excluded MalaKeyHook.dll a long time ago.  There two types of exclusions.  One is for the scheduled scans and the other is for the "on-access" scan.  Below is the screenshot for the on-access scan exclusions which is harder to find.  The exclusion needed is:

Code: [Select]
*\malakeyhook.dll
