Looking for specific cup holders!
« on: September 10, 2008, 09:05:27 am »
Echoing a message I've left for Santoro, I'm looking for a particular type of cup holder for my new arcade project. I'm in the UK and I'm after some cup holders that can be sunk into my control panel, but the only ones I can find are the wire-frame collapsible ones that hang on the side of your cabinet. Take a look at Santoro's recently-sold cabinet to see what I mean:

The closest I've found that I could possibly hack up is this one:

but ideally I want one that will sit-in with alip on the surface and be totally sealed to account for drips etc. I don't mind ordering US if I have to, but a British supplier would be best.

All I can keep picturing is someone slamming their beer bottle in that holder down a little too hard and then you screaming as you notice the foam oozing all over your buttons and joystick.  :P

  • Yeah, owning a MAME cab only leads to owning real ones. MAME just isn't good enough. It's a gateway drug.

There's a place next to my cab for drinks.

No one would even think about putting one on my cabinet.

I throw a lot of parties.... and yes my cab has been spilled on a lot... cup holders are a good solution, I still haven't found the kind I would want on my cab.

Thanks st. That's pretty much what I've got in mind, though I'd like it a little deeper ideally, and maybe in simple black plastic. At just £3 though they may be worth a pop.

The reason I want this style is because my new cabinet design will have no sides or anything to hang holders off, plus I want them big enough to accept pint glasses (Brits mostly drink pints, not bottles!) or maybe the odd snack packet. I know a lot of people are paranoid about cleanliness but I've always been about function over aesthetics - my cabinet is just designed for best gameplay, not as a showpiece. As it will be rare that anyone will play on it but me it is unlikely to get wet or anything; I don't drink alcohol anymore and my friends aren't clumsy muppets!

Any other suggestions for places to get these?
