Spy Hunter for a Ridge Racer?
« on: September 14, 2008, 03:38:11 pm »
Hi, I posted this question over on KLOV, but I would like to hear opinions here as well. I can get a non working Spy Hunter upright for another working game. The guy would really like to get my Ridge Racer, but will take something else if I can find something interesting. The Spy Hunter used to work, but quit and I am not sure yet what it will take to get it going. He is going to drop it off later this week so I can look at it.

Here is where I am having a hard time with the decision. I like the Ridge Racer, but I never play it unless people are over and I have to show them that it is possible to get 1st place. I don't know the values of either game, but I do no that I payed more for the Ridge Racer. So what do you guys think? Would you trade the Ridge Racer, or try to find something else to trade? The RR would also make a great MAME driving project, which is definitely one of the reasons I am holding on to it.

Whichever way I end up going with this, I think I will leave it complete with the pcb. This is the prototype cabinet and I think it would be best to keep it whole. I haven't seen very many of these.

Out of curiosity, what does the proto cabinet look like?

It's the same one you have; different than the pic on KLOV.
I don't remember where I heard it was a prototype, but it is definitely different.

No way would I make that trade.

Not a technician . . . . just a DIY'er.

That is a horrible trade for your end. The Spy Hunter should either be working 100%, or he needs to be throwing some money in with it. On top of that, he is 'dropping it off' so you can fix it? Even if you do fix it, he should still throw some money in as if it was a dead game.

That would have to be a restored and 100% reliable Spy Hunter for it to be even close.

Thanks for the replies. That is what I was thinking, but I don't remember ever seeing a Spy Hunter for sale, so I don't know what they usually go for. Hopefully I can find a cheap game somewhere to trade for the SH.

Yeah, bad trade ...

Oi, Angry Radish -- I see your BattleShark in that pic (love the sideart!)  -- did you get it up and running ?  I seem to recall that you had a relay issue or some such problem (and I have one currently complete and working, except for a bad flyback and HOT) ?
Working: Not Enough
Projects: Too Many
Progress: None

Alas, the BattleShark had a hammer taken to it.
PCB was bad (sprites missing), missing the shaker motor board, no monitor, and the guage artwork was damaged/ripped off/blown away in transit with no repros available. At least I had no $$ into it (Got it for free)
If you want a spare board for parts, let me know  :)

Sorry for the threadjack

I saved the sides though, the sideart was too cool to toss.

I just  bought my first arcade machines. I got a working Spyhunter for $250 and a non working Donkey Kong for $50. The sides are bit banged up on the spy hunter and it needs a little TLC but it does work. I think I got a good deal but it was a bit of an impulse buy so I don't know.
