touch screens
« on: August 21, 2008, 01:17:05 pm »
I'm looking to make a bartop jukebox once I gather all the parts, and I tried to get a touchscreen from the other thread (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=83402.msg871279) and that didn't work out.

I am looking for a touchscreen, and I know nothing whatsoever about them.  I have read some of the threads and such, but I'm still a bit confused what would work me.  I was looking to make something like what Mountain posted here: http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=79817.0

Would one of these : http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=140240338647 be good for me?

That looks very similar to the ones people were buying off of eBay a few months ago.  It's a shame that they want $75 more though.

If you're not in a hurry to buy, keep an eye on this seller.  It looks like inventory is constantly changing.

I bought a similar ELO monitor without a bezel for $103 shipped ($85 Buy it now + $18 shipping) a couple of weeks ago.  It works great.  There were about seven listed and they were gone in three days.

your easiest bet is an open frame monitor (like the Elo's we all got in on).  If you think you an work around it and build a custom mount, I saw a NEC 1560V touchscreen on ebay just now for like $100 + shipping which isn't terrible.  We all basically got steals.  Retail on these things is still in the mid $300's and up.

Basically, be patient, don't get in a hurry, and wait.  Get measurements from the web for the monitor you think you might look into (basically one size for most open frames and then one for the standard 15" monitor), build around it to keep you busy and then wait to pounce.  If they were there once, they'll be back again.
