I-PAQ OR J-PAQ?
« on: August 22, 2008, 08:10:49 pm »
Please someone clarify this for me...in ultimarc site there are two boards...IPAQ and JPAQ. Besides the explanation the site gives i'm still clueless. Which one should I use for a cab that will host fighter games (street fighter, etc) among classics games? Also, could I use a JAMMA harness with any or both of the boards? :dizzy:

I believe the J-Pac interfaces a Jamma harness set-up with your computer. Where-as the I-Pac is used if your merely wiring your cab for Mame without a Jamma connector involved.

So, in other words, if I have an old JAMMA cab, I can just use the JPac. If I am building from scratch, I use the IPac.

What is the difference between J-PAC and I-PAC?

The I-PAC is a control interface which has all inputs connected into it via screw connectors, for building your own panel and doing your own control wiring. The J-PAC has most of the inputs connected to it via an integral JAMMA edge connector and makes it easy to connect a standard JAMMA pre-wired cabinet by simply plugging the cabinet connector onto the board. The J-PAC also contains video circuitry for connecting the PC to the cabinet arcade monitor.

Thank you all for your quick response. Also, what gauge cable should I use to wired the control panel to the IPAQ? I think Ill go with that one.

The gauge of wire we supply in our wiring kits is 16 X 0.2mm, which is a metric gauge. We are thinking of changing down to 7 X 0.2 owing to the high price of copper these days as this is just as good.
The gauge is not critical, the only real requirement is that the screw connectors on the I-PAC must be capable of gripping which they wont if its too thin.
Use stranded not solid wire.
