Mountain Dew Arcade Machine?
« on: August 07, 2008, 04:18:53 pm »

A friend sent this to me.  I don't know if the contest is still running but it looks pretty cool.

I think you need mountain dew points but I don't have any.  I don't even drink the stuff but the concept of winning something like might make me want to.

So I guess it is good marketing.

Let me know if anyone here has these points and knows about it.

You don't have to drink it, you just have to buy it.
I like the look of that cab.
It is beneath any self-respecting BYOAC'er to actually try to enter and win that sweepstakes or whatever it is.
If you like the cab, just frickin' build one! (It'll turn out better anyway!) :)

Eric.

Hell yeah, I hate getting things for free.

If I was in the US I would enter. Why the hell not? If I won it I imagine you could get a decent price for it. I dont know a lot about Mountain Dew but I know you crazy-cross-the-ponders value it quite highly as a brand at least.

Either that or if I won it I would strip it for parts. Free is my favourite colour  ;)

They pretty much say its easily MAME-able by the number of times they say its a regular computer with easy internet access, so Id give it a shot.

This cabinet is actually running the Maximus Arcade front end, so it IS a MAME/emulator cabinet.

That would make it illegal , yes?  Perhaps it is running something other than MAME?

It's a special version made by the author himself.

Why wouldn't you want to enter?  EVen if it's against your principles of BYOAC, darn it, just sell it after and it then at least helps to finance your dream cab project.

I actually won one of these last month and it's been sitting in my room for over a week now. I wanted to build my own cab as a summer project but I took a summer class instead so winning this was perfect. Most of the games from Taito, Atari 2600, Namco 25th anni, and Activision are just installed from retail a PC collection cd so it also came with the CD. As for the Midway games they are loaded with MAME which I think was modified, I am not sure since I had a bad crash that wiped everything.

The cabinet is made by GameCabinets Inc http://www.gamecabinetsinc.com/arcadehits.shtml

It's actually a nice cab but like Eric said, you can build a much better looking one, but hey it's free (gotta pay for taxes).. still sorta free. :) And if you are wondering if I drank any Dew for this, no I didn't, I just used free AMP codes, I perfer Coke anyways.

It crashed the first day because of the shotty MSI live update program, I was trying to grab a updated firmware for the motherboard seeing how there is no manual way to download it from their site but from a user ftp site.
