coin mech problem (solved)
« on: August 08, 2008, 05:34:52 am »
Hello!

I bought an Ultimarc coin mech ages ago, and just managed to wire it up recently (like the diagram on their site, with the zener diode between pins 2 and 3, and the coin/gnd going to the I-PAC).

The problem I'm getting is that it works for some games, and not for others.  For example, it *always* seems to work (with a 10p piece) for Commando and Flying Shark, but not with Ghosts n' Goblins or Outrun.

I'm pretty sure I've wired it right, and setup the comparable coin correctly. The coins are always dropping through the mechanism as they should, just the coin signal doesn't seem to register in some games, but does in others.

I've noticed on the mech there is a pulse speed setting (slow, med, fast) but maybe that's a red herring... in any case I'm not sure how to change it as it seems there's only 2 pins relating to it on the mech itself.

Anyone else had a similar issue?  Any help much appreciated!

Cheers

James

p.s. I've also emailed Andy at Ultimarc for help

perhaps you have some games set to 2 coins for 1 credit or more

Does your key mapping match for all those games ?

i.e. COIN = 5 & 6 etc
Not a technician . . . . just a DIY'er.

Hi, Thanks for your suggestions. Pretty sure the key mappings are correct, and set to one coin only (pressing '5' once inserts coin on those games where the mech isn't working).

Andy thinks it may be the pulse speed that needs changing to 'slow'. He's going to investigate.

Fixed it... there was a switch on the mech, hidden away... (no where near the diagrams said it would be)... I switched it and boom it works!
