Flyback for a WG7000

Hey there guys,


I have a monitor here that works, but goes dim / blurry then fine and bright after a while.  I looked around at the chassis and noticed a crack in the flyback.  Nudging the flyback 'screen' knob, fixes the issue for a moment.  There is no arching, yet   

I'm gonna just replace it...

I see the only numbers on the flyback are 'TLF09-04'  Do you recognize these numbers ?  I looked around on Google and some other forums.  I was told that K7000 flyback replacement (053X0528-001) from Bob Roberts should work.

Just wanted to double check with you guys before i blew something up

Are you sure you are 'nudging' the 'screen' knob-the lower one on the flyback-and not the upper 'focus'  knob on the flyback? Usually focus problems are picture tube issues and less often flyback problems.  I have an older K7000 in a ROBOTRON cab that takes over an hour just to get a blurry picture and almost two hours to come on clearly.

yup, im positive.

It also, causes the picture to go 'dim'  Someone had hot glued the knob into position, to be permanently pushed in.  They also put cocking on the crack.

 The factory glued the screen adjustment pot because they set it and don't want it to move during shipping and to discourage you from tampering with it--- just like they glued the B+ adjustment pot. If your flyback has been repaired by the previous owner then it has to be considered a suspect.  You need to know for sure. If you install a new flyback
and your problem turns out to be the tube at least you know you have a working chassis with a new flayback in stalled.  A tube is a lot more expensive than a flyback and if you buy a tube you should just buy a new monitor.  The cost structure seems to be set up that way.

Im highly suspect of the Flyback because of the crack (runs horizontally threw the middle) and the nudging of the knob.  I already have the replacment from Bob Roberts and just finidhed the install.

Gonna fire up the machine tomorrow, ill post my results.

The original k7000 flybacks developed hairline cracks in the case usually around the focus and screen controls. Sometimes arcing/burning takes place inside the focus or screen controls. The cure is to replace the flyback.

The replacement flybacks are made by a different manufacturer than the original one. They are much better than the originals were.

Keep in mind the replacement flyback will have the focus and screen adjustments set just about anywhere right out of the package so you'll need to readjust them when you power up the monitor. Usually the controls are turned all the way down (counter clockwise) right out of the box. Turn the screen control about a quarter of a turn clockwise which should be enough to see a picture. Now set the focus control.

After the monitor has warmed up for 15 minutes, you may need to readjust the screen and focus.

I fired up the machine today, and all is well.  Strange symptoms are gone and the chassis run quieter.

I was just a bit worried because the replacment flyback did look the same or have the same numbers on it.  But it did end up working out.
