TRON IS ALIVE !
« on: July 01, 2008, 10:57:00 pm »
Can you guys belived that i never played Tron in my life  :'( well, my dream came true  :applaud:

My Tron is finally alive !!!

It started few months ago: http://spaceinvaders.7.forumer.com/viewtopic.php?t=967

Found a Tron cab for $99, and of course it was not working   :P  the sides were not in a good shape, the back of the cab is very bad, all back doors unusable     But the front was in perfect condition

The monitor was blank, and the game did not even play blind   :dunno  so i started to work on little things:

The cab stayed in a corner for a while, until i decided to really see what was going wrong... :D

I turn on the cab, download the owner manual, look at all the fuses and check the voltage, and  :timebomb: nothing at all...

I removed the power supply:

As you can see, a lithium battery was installed, i can see some trace of repair before.
Now i have a few choices

1- try to repair it again, order a cap-kit
2- get another one working on ebay
3- make some research  an it pay off  :D (Thanks to this board once again  :notworthy:)

I found this:

A replacement, it is plug and play, just need a regular power supply  :applaud:

I placed an order, and got it a few days later

I hooked up to a brand new PSU...know was time to put it in the cab...

no need of those cables with that device...

I rewire the PCB

The wood that was maintaining the PCB was in a bad shape, so i replaced it with a PCB holder, that i bought form Bob Roberts a while ago...

Time to check all the connections...

A little prayer to the ARCADES GODS, power on and  :-\

YHEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA IT'S WORKING !!!!

Before playing my first Tron game, i decided to give a final cleaning to the cab...

I probably removed 3 tones of dust   :hissy:

TIME TO PLAY MY FIRST TRON GAME

Wowwww, i love it...i never played the game before, just twice on Mame, with the keyboard

I love the game, fun fun fun  8)

SHOW TIME KNOW (Probably one of the most beautiful arcade cabinet)

<----happy  :applaud:

I'm so happy for you!   :)

I wish my TRON would have had all of it's insides intact.

But in my TRON's case,

Somebody, Thought it would be a good idea to make it a RAIDEN  :badmood:

I would have never made head's or tails outta the mess that was in there!

Which is why i went my route.

Your TRON is beautiful!   :notworthy:

You should be proud !

Great score.

Let's keep this between us, but I have never played Tron   :-[   It was a little before my arcade days.  Nonetheless, I think Tron is a beautiful cab.

$100 for a classic in that condition that only had that much wrong with it, awesome.

In the picture below.

Is that a giant monitor bezel around the monitor?

Or a piece of wood?

Thanks!

Nice score.

* CheffoJeffo looks wistfully at the Tron project right beside him and decides that it's time to pull out the boardsets and see what shape they are in
