NBA Jam sound stuttering?

Hey all,
I'm running mame .121 and I'm having a sound stuttering problem with NBA Jam - otherwise the game plays fine. I've read through the other "sound problem" threads and I've tried setting refreshspeed 1 in the mame.ini - no luck. Anyone else having this problem or have any suggestions?

which rom set? I have 2.0 and 3.0 and sometimes 2.0 stutters on the sound (actual PCBs)
Same thing happen in NBA Jam TE ?
