Robocop hates DataEast arcade cabs!
« on: May 09, 2008, 12:08:42 am »
I am watching Robocop2 on Vongo(not that great a movie) And noticed that in the arcade/drug dealing HQ that all of the games in the arcade are DataEast games. Funny thing is that none of them have side-art other than the DE logo...

I do remember seeing many DataEast cabs with just the logo on the side IRL, but I presumed this was just because these were generic cabs that they didnt change the side art on. Did DE make any cabs that had other side art on them? Hell dont even think I remember any DE cabs that were anything but a generic upright cab... O.o

Also, Robocop in RC2 severly damages an arcade cab, so I am no longer a fan of the Robocop series....

Data east did have some games with dedicated sideart. Some of therm are captain America, burgertime, ghostbusters and my personal favorite robocop.

This isn't a data east cab though, I built it from scratch as a mame machine but it doses have there sideart.

rlemmon, thanx for the info. But now that you posted a pic of your cab, you forced me to be influenced. (IE you are teh ebil)

I was going to base my cab off of TMNT, but after looking at the specs I didnt like the 45 degree monitor angle. After seeing your remake cab for RC with its 25 degree off of vertical screen setup and deep design I have a request:
Can you measure out your cab (or do you have your blue prints)? I will be using a "wide" control panel for my 2P cab, but I like the depth of the cab and the angle of the screen this allows.

Any help with this would be appreciated. After seeing your cab, I thing it looks better than TMNT (although I will be using a wider CP than RC can allow for)

Also: I havent played RC2, I never liked the robocop1 game. Just didnt appeal to me. Do like the cab tho.

Data East produced the Robocop game.  I assume they paid to be the exclusive arcade cab company in the movie.
