Hiding Windows XP
« on: April 21, 2008, 02:15:31 am »
Well, its been two years since the last time I built a MAME machine, simply because the last time I just couldn't find a decent cab.  I finally splurged and I have a Defender cab on its way, so I pulled out my trusty MAME tools CD and set to work on building another system from my spare parts.

As opposed to last time, this time around I opted to install Windows XP Media Center Edition, simply because not only did I want to take the chance to try out MCE but I also prefer XP's superior driver support over DOS and Win98.  The downside to this route, however, is I need to find some new ways to "hide" Windows when the system boots and shuts down.

Whats the best way to do this?  I was under the impression that XP still used an AUTOEXEC.BAT file (though its usually empty), but for whatever reason my system doesn't have one nor does it look for one.  Has anyone else hidden their XP installation?  Thus far, I've managed to hide the XP boot screen and replace it with an arcade-style FBI warning.

Check out the WIKI

Instant Sheller is a software tool that can do most of the hiding for you.

Remove boot logo, set your window colors/background to black?

Oh, and make your FE the Windows "Explorer"?
