So im gutting my pc to put it into the cab, for heat reasons, and im running into the problem of the perifial  cards (and some solder points on the motherboard) hitting the wood. No hardware store in the area sells spacers.  I was going to use metal washers but fear that that may cause a short, any suggestions.

If you get a Bic pen like the one in the link:

http://www.wackypackages.org/stickers/4th_2006/realproducts/bicpens.jpg

You can pull out the cartridge, then cut the hollow plastic tube into 1/2" pieces and use them as spacers.  just use 1" wood screws or 1" sheet metal screws.

That's a brilliant idea.  That's going in the mental filing cabinet for future reference.

I haven't read anything about this, but do most people take the computer out of the case and just mount it in their cab for heat reasons? I've seen a number of people do it, and come to think of it I haven't seen anyone not do it, so is that pretty standard practice?

@iddqd i would say yes. This is my first mame cab and it just made sense to me to do so. Then upon wondering the forums i saw others had done so as well.

I usually just put the whole PC in the cabinet and secure it in there.  I have not experienced any heat problems with my systems.  I usually get off-lease PCs which are ready to go.

Do you do anything about ventilation, like cutting exhaust holes in the back and putting the exhaust ports in the PC against those holes? Or is it fine without anything like that? I'm thinking I'm probably just going to put the whole thing in there, becuase my case has a bunch of fans and I'd like to use them.

My system was overheating and shutting off in the case.  When I took it out and mounted it bare the problem went away.  My cabinet already had ventilation built into it for the original PCBs and monitor, so that wasn't necessary.
