I've been working on this guy for months.
Still needs a lot of tweaks, including..
1. I can't figure out how to make it turn on from the power switch on top of the cab (i've got it wired up right, but i'm not sure if the bios will let it. for now i have to open the coin door and push the power button on the pc)
2. Need lots and lots of themes for Hyperspin. Is there a place where I could just download all the current ones at once?
3. Don't know if windows 7 can be shelled, but that'd be cool
4. Just running arcade games from Hyperspin right now, because i'm having too many issues with the emulators working right in windows 7 (vsync, etc). All the console emus would be totally dope tho.
5. Some of the vertical shooters don't look good with hardware stretch on, but its the only way i can figure out how to get the whole screen on there. Some look great though (like gunbird), but some look lousy (esp ra de).
6. I really wish there was a way to edit the game list in Hyperspin or Hyper HQ.
7. I really wish there was a way to start Hyperspin in my Favorites.
8. I can't figure out how to get the glass and bezel off the front of the cab (it's really dirty and i wanna dust the monitor)
9. I've found that I need to turn the brightness on my screen down to get rid of these faint gray horizontal lines on my screen. To compensate, I turn up the gamma in the MAME games, and it looks fantastic. But Hyperspin looks dark. Is there an easy way to brighten HS up?
10. I use the SELECT GAME button to exit out of MAME games, but also if I press P1 and P2 start at the same time, it'll also exit. Is there a way to deactivate the P1+P2 start exit?
It started it's life out as a War:Final Assault cab I got off Craigslist for free (it didn't work, it needed a new IEC cable). I got a new marquee and overlay from some web site. Im happy with the overlay, but the marquee is weird. The slots for the mini marquees are small, so I had to trim the (repro) mini marquees down to fit. Not a huge deal though. 8-button layout. I end up using the 8th button (top right) as a pause button (I think all the extra buttons people put at the tops of their control panels look lousy). I painted it red, but I'm not too thrilled about the texture from the roller, so maybe in the future i'll sand it and do it over, but for now it's fine. If I had to start over, I'd definitely use a PC with XP instead of Windows 7. I'm kind of a PC noob but I ran into a LOT of problems (direct draw and direct 3d, soft15khz not working, lots of proabs) with Win 7 and with a little research it seems XP is the way to go with MAME cabs.
I'm having tons of fun with this thing. I just got 2 GunCons for cheap off eBay so I'm gonna look into getting one of those AimTrak kits (gotta figure out how to take that bezel out first tho!).
OK I'm done. Feedback? Help on my questions? Thanks guys, love the forum.
