4 pin S-VIDEO cable and 7 pin TV-OUT
« on: February 29, 2008, 03:42:43 pm »
My old VGA had a 4 pin TV-OUT and I've bought a pretty expensive S-VIDEO cable some years ago. The picture quality was really good. Now I have another VGA that I want to use for my Cab but it has a 7 pin TV-OUT (s-video).

Did someone used a 4 pin S-VIDEO cable in a 7 pin TV-OUT before ?

Please share your knowledge with me folks  ;D

The 7 pin output is special and usually also has component.  You can buy adapters to go to the standard 4-pin s-video online or you may have gotten one with your card.  Sometimes the connector is designed such that a 4-pin standard s-video cable will plug directly in, but not always.  If it fits, it should work.  If it doesn't fit, then you'll need to to come up with the little adapter dongle.

It fits but I still don't know if I should try it, I've found the following in the S-VIDEO Wiki.

The 4-pin mini-DIN connectors seem to be common on TVs, VCRs, and DVD players. The 7-pin quasi-DIN connectors seem to be more common on computers. The 7-pin socket accepts the 4-pin plug and the S-video signals are available on the matching pins. When a 7-pin plug is inserted, one of the extra pins carries a CVBS composite video signal for non S-video displays. Some graphics cards require the remaining two pins to be shorted together to enable the CVBS mode. Many newer cards (especially those with inputs and outputs) will also require the 7+ pin connector and will not just take the s-video cable directly. If you try to connect it, you will damage the cable and/or the card.

It would be great if someone could confirm the method who had already try it successfully.
