You laugh, but a wii remote would do for alot of these games, if it could ever be interfaced properly....hmmm   May not be that far off!

1. Looks better.
2. More elbow room for two players.
3. left and right-handed play(use P1 or P2 buttons, as preferred by player)


Short Answer: A centered Trackball looks and plays better in every scenario.
