Mala Mamewah Editor Question *FIXED*
« on: February 09, 2008, 03:06:22 pm »
I'm trying to import a Daphne photo from Mamewah to Mala.  I used the mamewah editor program and the file has been renamed to .mll  I placed all files in the working Mala layout directory like my other mala layout files but I'm having problems getting the Daphne Layout to load when I'm using Mala.  I have the Mala tree set up correctly because all of my other .mll files are working in Mala.

What am I doing wrong?  Please help out.  I've searched all over the forums/web and I can't seem to find out what I'm doing wrong.  I have been at this for a few days without any luck.  Don't want to ditch Mala cause I'm sure it's something I'm doing wrong.  Thanks.

The Mamewah-> MaLa layout converter does not move the graphic files.

You need to copy them by hand.  ;)

Does it have something to do with this?  This error message seems to pop up in Mala when I'm trying to open a layout file.  I'm using Zebra's Mala Tree layouts, however; all of the Zebra layouts work and the daphne mll file does not even though I have the file in the appropriate directory.

We need more info here.

When you say it does not work , do you mean:
1) It does not load at all
2) It does load but not with correct graphics
3) It loads initially then crashes
4) It loads and works but the elements are all in the wrong position

More info thanks

Sorry Loadman.  More info is always appreciated.

The layout is saved and then put into the correct file in the Mala Tree.  When I run Mala, the layout's background image is not visible. It seems the overall layout is correct (text, video, etc.) but the main background image does not come up.  Hope this helps.

As loadman mentioned in the second message of this thread,  you have to copy and paste the background image from the Mamewah location to the Mala location.  Just browse to it using Windows Explorer and copy and paste it to the location of the Mala layout.  That's what he means by "copying them by hand".

Thanks for the response, however; I did copy the Mamewah image and paste it in my Mala folder and I still don't have any luck getting the layout to work.  When I check the preview in Mala Layout editor it shows the correct image but for some reason it's not working.  Not sure what I'm doing wrong  :banghead:

I see you copied the image to the Mala folder.  Is that where your layout is located?  Makes me think that you have two layout files.  The one that is in the Mala folder with the backgound image is the one you're loading with the layout editor.  The other one is the one you're loading when Mala is starting.  ???  Make sure you copied the background image to the correct folder.

SGT, I appreciate you helping me out with this and please excuse my confusion but I'm not sure I understand how I can be starting the wrong layout file in Mala and then in the Layout Editor program.  Does this have something to do with that error message I'm getting (see above question in thread)?

Once again, I did the same thing with the other layouts so I don't know what I did wrong here.

I don't know, I'm shooting in the dark.  I thought that perhaps you had made two different copies of the same layout file (by accident).  Perhaps you have one of these in the Mala folder and another in a Mala subfolder.  You could be using the layout editor to modify one layout file, but Mala could be using the other layout file.

You said you copied the background image to the Mala folder.  That does not seem right because looking at your error message, it looks like your layout files are in this folder:
Code: [Select]
C:\Documents and Settings\CJB\Desktop\Mala\Zebra\layouts
One other thing that you are doing that I wouldn't recommend (even though it may not be causing a problem) is your Mala folder is actually on your desktop.  I would move the Mala folder to C:\.    As you can see instead of a path of:

Code: [Select]
C:\Mala\Zebra\layouts
you have:
Code: [Select]
C:\Documents and Settings\CJB\Desktop\Mala\Zebra\layouts
This can create problems for a *few* apps that do not expect that many subfolders.  I'm not saying this is causing your problem, but generally you would only put a shortcut on your desktop instead of the actual folder.

Anyway, back to the topic:  I would put a copy of the background image into your layouts folder which appears to be:
Code: [Select]
C:\Documents and Settings\CJB\Desktop\Mala\Zebra\layouts
If you haven't already, try copying the background image to:
Code: [Select]
...Mala\Zebra\layouts
Background images need to be in the same subfolder as your layout files.  Somehow I get the feeling I am going to confuse you more regarding paths and folders, but anytime a folder is on your desktop, you can also browse to it via My Computer by going to
Code: [Select]
C:\Documents and Settings\CJB\Desktop

Well, looks like all along my Daphne folder in my layouts were I have my bg image was spelled incorrectly, so whenever I was trying to open up my Daphne.mll file it was not loading the bg image.  Goes to show that it's important to have the same name folder for images, etc.

Finally!  Thanks Loadman & SGT for your support.  You gave me some good advice beyond trying to get this layout fixed.  Thanks again.

Now on to more Mala configuration...  :scared
