how do I degauss a hantarex polo 3 monitor?
« on: December 26, 2007, 03:25:19 pm »
I have a 21" polo/3 from hantarex, and tried switching off and on (thought that would work) but it seems it doesn't degauss unless its switched off for a minute or so...  Any clue as to how I might get this to work on quick switch off/on... or is there another way?

Thanks

the only way to do want you want is to have a manual degauss switch,i do not really understand why you need this as once a monitor degausses the picture should be fine unless you have a strong magnetic force close by.
the degauss circuit works via a sort of thermistor(ptc component) that only operates from cold start

Hi there

I have just put together my rotating monitor setup, hence the need for a degauss each time I rotate the monitor.  Currently, switching off and on doesn't seem to trip the degauss, unless I leave the monitor off for a minute or longer (like you said - a cold start).  Do you have any pointers on building a manual degauss switch (say attached to a pushbutton)?  Thanks again.

hantarex could probably tell how to mod the chassis but i reckon your best bet is to get a manual degauss wand as then you don't have to mess with anything-look at degaussing on ebay, you can get them for $10 + shipping
i understand why you need this with a rotating tube

Folkestone :)  I lived in Maidstone for a couple of years.  The only thing Folkestone is missing is a Maplins... still, a B&Q just opened round the corner from my house, so I can't complain too much! :P

Before I go buy one of those degaussing wands... do they work if there's glass in the way?  I have 6mm tinted toughened safety glass about an inch in front of the monitor screen.  Also, how long should I have to wave it before the colours are back to normal?

Thanks again

p.s.  The sunday market is no more!  All the land is being converted into posh housing and a marine afaik! :)

Keep in mind that there is somewhat of a technique that you must use to properly degauss the monitor even with a degauss wand or coil.... and you would still have to do this EVERY time you rotated the monitor.
The Nanao monitors used to have a seperate pushbutton degauss circuit, I wonder if something like that could be incorporated into your design.
Not a technician . . . . just a DIY'er.

it will work through glass, basically all you do is start close to the tube and move away using a circular motion until the gaussing goes(a few seconds should suffice)
