I was listening to NPR last night and they did a long, long interview about Dewey Cox and played several of the songs from the movie.  Not a single one of them was funny.

Oh man, I liked every one of those movies very much with the exception of Dewy Cox which I haven't seen YET.  The only one I'd score less than maybe an 8 (out of 10) is Knocked Up and even that I'd recommend as maybe 6/6.5...  If I were the type who goes to theaters, I'd definitely go see Walk Hard!

I pretty much agree with this. I thought Knocked up was somewhat funny. Unfortunately, the F-bomb was dropped WAY too much and really took away from that movie. If it was PG-13, it would have been much funnier.

40 year old virgin was definitely overrated. There were some funny spots, but it seemed to just drag on forever, and had way to much pointless dialogue.

I wanted Ricky Bobby to be funny, but it just wasn't.

Anchorman. Wow, that movie was a huge turd.

Finally saw The Simpsons Movie last night... wow was that disappointing.  There was barely any storyline at all, just random attempts to squeeze in everything they could fit.  Just not something I'll ever want to watch again.  The gold standard for this type of animated sitcom movie for me is Beavis and Butthead Do America.  That movie should have been terrible... taking a 5 minute concept out to 80 minutes... but it is awesome.  I've probably watched it 450 times.

Saw I am Legend last week too... that was really, really good until 3/4 of the way in when it turned into The Mummy.  Then it just got weird.

I justify those movies as being made for 17 years olds (naive, immature, mush for brains...). Knocked Up here was rated 14 and up, fyi. My tastes have less and less in common with teenagers the older I get (which is surely a good thing, as teens don't have very discriminating taste)

I don't expect much from those kinds of comedies, so I rarely waste money on them. Having seen Talledega Nights for free on cable, it had its moments.  Anchorman I couldn't get into so I've only seen 10 minutes of it.

Same applies to most horror and "super natural" movies they pump out. Most are aimed at a rather unsophisticated crowd (which is why Rob Zombie can get away with directing movies and having them actually get distributed to theatres). Me, I'm too jaded now. All those movies are predictable, as I've seen the same plot lines or jokes over and over before.  I Am Legend was good and I would recommend it, but even that one is essentially just a well-polished mash-up of Omega Man + 28 Days Later

I read an article in Sci Fi magazine about the movie where the director said that they wanted to stay away from the "mindless zombies" like in 28 Days because it has been done too much.  They wanted to have a different spin on things.

Also, the vampires in the original book weren't mindless.

1)  He didn't think they cared about the woman and the kid.  They wanted him.  Plus he killed the leader that wanted him, so yes, they would stop if both Smith and the leader were dead.  All he had to do was get them through to the next day so they could flee in the daylight.

or

2)  He wanted to die anyway because he didn't believe there was anyone else out there.  He had tried to kill himsell the night before.  Finding the cure was a coincedence by then - he had stopped trying.

The thing that made no sense to me is that with a contained explosion like that those two people would have been cooked deader than a burned pot roast if there were any oxygen at all down there after the fire.

Ouch.  I LOVE Family Guy.  Mostly because of the random jokes that play on useless crap that I can still remember.  I guess I'm lucky because a simple fart joke still makes me laugh.  I feel fortunate for that.  I also like how Family Guy mixes some high class social humor with random "WTF?!!!!!" type humor.  That's what I love.

I thought that Taladega Nights was "okay".  I watched it about five times during a business trip I had over to the United Kingdom.  It was the best choice at the time.  It was decent watching it once, but on repeated viewings it just got obnoxious.  Thankfully, the free champagne made it feel less "sucky".  On my last international trip I had choices between The Simpsons Movie, Transformers, Live Free Or Die Hard, and many others.  I thought The Simpsons Movie was okay, and Live Free or Die Hard was complete and utter ---steaming pile of meadow muffin---.  It ruined the franchise.  1 and 3 were AWESOME, 2 was pretty damned good, but the latest one hurt my brain.  I just wish I had watched Transformers instead.

Watch the South Park "Cartoon Wars" Part 1 & 2.  They rip on Family Guy's writing by having the boys discover that Family Guy isn't actually written at all.  It's created by a bunch of sedated manatees who take "idea balls"(which have random pop culture references written on them) and send them down a tube attached to their aquarium.  The balls are then put together like lottery balls to become a Family Guy joke.

Brilliant.

South Park has always been one of the funniest and smartest social commentaries on TV. They really put the outrageous ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- in real life into perspective. Ever seen the episode where cartman proves he can eat thru his butt and poop out his mouth, and then it becomes a cultural fad for the world? That was comedy gold I tell you!

It really doesn't surprise me though that YOU don't like South Park. I'm still trying to figure out why you still come here, since you have absolutely nothing in common with anyone here.

I'd give it another try if I were you.  As has been said, it truly has turned into one of the greatest satires in the history of television.  I assure you it's not just about poop jokes and swearing(though if it were and it was funny, who cares?)

They write and produce every episode only 1 week before it airs!  Every episode is fresh with current political or pop culture issues that get taken to task.  The show has only gotten better with age.

Check out Team America(also by the South Park guys) on DVD as well if you haven't seen it.  Simplistic people like yourself just slag it off as a simple "puppet movie" when in reality it is a picture perfect commentary on our national patriotism and the "war against terror".

That's what's great about movies: one person's classic is another person's bomb.  Take Lost in Translation.  I LOVED that movie, but a lot of people thought it was stupid and boring.  Who's right?  We all are.  Like it, hate it, love it, despise it.  That's entertainment!
