Thinking about picking up an Astro Fighter cocktail
« on: December 04, 2007, 05:42:11 pm »
Got an Astro Fighter near me going for cheap and a Sony PVM 11" monitor laying around.  Do you think it wouldn't be very hard to replace the monitor and add new controls that are of a more standard type?

Or would it be mutilating a classic and I should just keep it as is?

What do you guys think?

Oh, here's the game for reference"

It probably wouldn't be too hard, but I'm not a big fan of school desk cocktails.
I much prefer the cocktails that have a larger screen, with CPs at the ends, like a Midway cabinet.

I'm not a fan of cocktails at all. You may be better off getting a full size arcade cab and not limit yourself to a cocktail with no room for improvement control wise, if you ever decided to Mame it or turn it into something else you have a very limited space to do anything.

On the other hand, if you know what you want and this cocktail is it, just go for it.

Well, I already have a MAME cabinet built, so I was more thinking of making this into a dedicated cab with a pcb inside.  Maybe some very nice oldschool shooter that will still be able to use the Astro Fighter controls?

i'd say if you were to mame it, only install two way games with one or maybe two buttons. the angle on those cps are a bit of a pain and 4 or 8 way would be awful...
