MALA, LED Blinky, Soft 15khz (64 bit OS)
« on: December 06, 2007, 10:27:48 pm »
I was thinking about switching to Win XP 64 or Vists 64. Can anyone verify Mala frontend, ledblinky plugin and soft 15khz work with 64 bit os?

Is this for a cabinet computer or a desktop computer (that for some reason, you're running soft-15khz on)?  Unless there was some major, noticeable improvement in MAME for a 64 bit OS (I really don't follow MAME developments that closely), I wouldn't bother.   But that's just my "practical side" speaking.  If you have a reason, I won't twist any arms.

64-bit Vista makes a few more games playable on a Core 2 DUO ~3GHz.

I assume you're talking about MAME games?  Then I suppose if you're really wanting to play those games (and you don't mind dropping extra coin) it could be worth it.  But this all really depends on Bent98's goal (e.g. are you aiming for better performance is relatively recent games).

Unfortunately, I watch the development, but don't mess with the games which means I can't remember the games.

Of the top of my head, Blitz and Vapor TRX.  Any of the games using the Voodoo or hyperstone core games have seen an improvement.  I think there is a thread on the main forum that has some benchmarking numbers.

Yes its for an arcade cab. and I want to run blitz and other newer games for speed. I will also be running a billabs 27" arcade monitor. I know win xp 32 bit is not a problem. Seems like win xp 64 runs those newer core games better with a 64 bit OS.

Just dont feel like installing xp 64 and then stuff doesnt work

My 2 cents.
I would go 64 bit since it seems to be the future.

Why save a few bucks and regret your decision in 6 months?

Its not a matter of cost. I just want to know of those applications will work.
