I have a billabs BL27CB0P 27" flat screen monitor that I would like to mount in my TMNT cabinet. Theres plenty of room in the cabinet but the original monitor sat on a angled shelf that I dont think I will be able to use with the new monitor. So I thought I might get some sort of metal angle to run across the top and bottom of the monitor to bolt the monitor to. Does have any pics of this monitor mounted in there  cabinet? Heres a link to the monitor I have. http://www.billabs.com/bl27cb0p.htm
I don't know if you know this but I'm sort of a big deal. I own many leather bound books and my apartment smells of rich mahogany.

Hey Muell67, did you ever get the monitor mounted? I am having the same issue and wondered if you got yours to fit, if so how?

Thanks,
Deefish

I have an old Sunset Riders which was actually a conversion of a TMNT cab that I am now using to convert to a MAME cab. I bought a 27" Betson monitor for it and was wondering how I was going to do the same thing. I ended up buying four regular ol' brackets from Home Depot. For the bottom 2 I had to lop off half of the bottom to have it correctly fit. Also, as you can see from the pics, I had to put a small wood block between the inside of the cab and the bracket to make the bracket reach the monitor brace. The "worst" part about it is that the heads of the lag bolts show through the outside of the cab. However, once it was painted, it blended in nicely (see last pic). I have no idea how the Billabs monitor looks, but maybe these pics will give you some ideas.
Good luck!

this is good stuff :) I just started building a TMNT/Simpsons cab from the plans on Jakobuds and I have the same monitor!  been wondering how to mount it.  I was thinking about mounting the monitor to a peice of plywood and then screwing some 1x2s inside to the cab to mount it to.  but those metal brackets look plenty sturdy!

I documented how I mounted this same monitor in my scratch-built Golden Tee cabinet.  You can see the steps here:

could any of you guys with TMNT confirm a dimension for me?  From all the pics I've seen these dimensions just dont look right... 1.5" seems way too big.. probably doesnt matter much but I want to be sure before I start cutting.. This is uncharted territory for me!!  :D

BTW.. that's from the side showing the notch right at the control panel.

Hmmm, well I have dry fitted the monitor a few times. Very tight fit. Looks like no matter how i put it in the back is going to stick out. Looks like I will have to cut the back door.

Hey Lakersfan, does your monitor stick out the back? I cant tell if you have the back door on in the pictures.

I am also considering cutting a slot on the bottom slanted shelf to slip the metal monitor bracket into to lower the monitor as it hits the speaker shelf in the back. This may be my best bet.

I have to make it work, as I have done way to much work to this TMNT cab to scrap it now.

Thanks for the tips guys.

Hey Brandon, I measured mine and I get 1 inch on the nose.  And mine has a slight incline to it, and the next angle area is just over 1 inch.  I dont know that it would matter much if you left it 1.5 on both sides, it would just add a little to the over all size. The angles are pretty important as they allow the CP lid to lay down correctly, so when you latch it, the cp seals nice and tight. I put some sticky door insulation strips on the under side of the cp to cushion it and help seal it even better.

Hope that helps,
Deefish

I just picked up a Betson 27" monitor and was getting ready to mount it.  Luckily there were already pieces of wood inside my cab (complete with bolt holes) to mount the monitor.  However, the mounts are for a 25" inch monitor and they have to be moved slightly to accommodate the larger 27" size.  I haven't made the modifications yet, so I can still take pictures of the monitor mounts as they are.  Unfortunately, I'm not at home at the moment, so I can't right now.    :(

However, I will post the pics as soon as I can.  In the meantime, I will try to describe it.  Basically, for the top part of the monitor (3 bolts) the cab has a block of wood on the left and right side which is screwed in from the inside of the cabinet.  (The screws used do not go all the way through to the outside)   Then a piece of plywood is screwed into those pieces and goes all the way across to either end.  On that piece of plywood is 3 holes with bolts.  The monitor then bolts into the plywood.  The same is true for the bottom.

Since the cab already had these pieces of wood in there (originally from when it was manufactured) I'm pretty confident that they are strong enough to hold the monitor.  However, since it's a 27" and a bit heavier than the original 25", I plan to also put pieces of wood or brackets under the monitor for additional support once the monitor is mounted.

Again, all of this can be accomplished by screwing in small pieces of wood from the inside of the cab without having to have an unsightly bolts on the outside of the cab.  The screw should be long enough to make it through the wood you are screwing to the cab, but short enough to not go all the way through to the outside.  When I post the pics I will also include the size screw I used.

** UPDATE:  Pictures posted  **
(excuse the wood filler - I'm preparing my cab for painting)

eek!  looks like I better modify these plans a little before I cut the wood!  I guess you could trying moving the monitor forward an inch or two but then I guess you wouldn't have room for the bezel... ???  Maybe I should build a mortal kombat cab instead  ;)

It does look awful close!  Hey Lakersfan, Does it hit the back door?

btw, thanks for taking measurement for me Deefish! :)  I might leave those notches out and put 3/4" notches in the control panel instead. :-\

Sorry about the delay in response. I have been out of town for a few days.

No, the monitor does not stick out in the back. The back door fully closes. However, I did need to remove the brace from the back and mount the main board to the bottom where the monitor sits. I did this once the monitor was installed. I'll post some pics if you need me to, but you'll have to wait until I get back home on Weds...

Let me know if you have any other questions.

No, once the entire back brace was removed and the main board was secured to the wood just below the monitor. It's close, but the neck of the monitor just misses it!

Lakersfan, Yes I would like to see pictures of that. Do you think with removing the back brace/frame that it would weaken the overall mounting of the tube?

I think I may want to just cut the door and build a bulge in it to cover the back. Maybe get an old plastic TV casing and attach it to the hole in the back door to schroud it. Although I would love if it just fit all compact and nice in there, but that doesnt look to be happening. I guess I could scrap the Bezel and move the whole monitor a full 2 inches closer to the front, and that would make the back door close, I just really like the bezel clean look.

I guess you could alway use smoked glass instead of clear + a bezel.   This is making me reconsider building a TMNT cab :D  I either need to modify the plans or just build a MK style cab...

Ok, here are some pics. The Betson monitor has a back support brace that goes from the top brace, around the back of the monitor, attaching to the bottom brace. On the brace itself, the system board is attached to it. I removed that back brace that was holding nothing but the system board. It is a big stabilizer, but once the monitor was in I could easily uninstall the brace without harm to the monitor since it was now fully secured. I then attached the system board to the wood where the old monitor used to sit. Hope these pics make sense of what i am saying....

The back door now fully closes. It does not touch any part of the monitor. It really close, though. Also, as you can see on the last pic, the back door has a little bit of an indented area that was already there (not sure if yours has the same thing). The indention is there, but the neck of the monitor does not use it. I'll be happy to answer any other questions!
