27" Sony Trinitron
« on: October 18, 2007, 11:46:03 am »
I'm curious to know if anyone else has run into this problem - I've found a nice 27" Sony Trinitron with a great picture and a great price... the only problem is that the seller is telling me that the TV is 26.5" wide.  Careful measurement of my cab (following Saint's book) indicates 26" of width between the sides.  Argh.  Thankfully I haven't purchased the TV yet.

Anyone else encounter that problem?  Suggestions?  Wondering if 25" Trinitron's exist... :(

shave a couple of millimeters off the inside of your cab on each side then spray it would be a shame to have a smaller monitor with a massive bezel

Is the monitor already decased?  You should be able to fit it if you decase it.

Don't do this unless you know what you're doing.  Dangerous stuff inside the case.

I wont' even try to decase the thing... It would look great in my cab, but it's already .5" wider than the inside of the cab so shaving a few mm off each side wont' do it... I'd have to take 1/4" off each side, weakening the sides (and the heavy TV plus shelf) and the monitor would be tightly inserted, probably generating more heat than I want.  I'm going to have to look for a smaller monitor... possibly 25" - any suggestions on 25" brands, folks?

Thanks, All.

I picked up a 24" Sony Trinitron with component, s-video, and composite. If I recall correctly, it was very very close to 26" wide, even with the side speakers. It may be closer to 26.5, but that is all removable speaker enclosure. There is also a model with the speakers on the bottom that would fit. Only problem is, both of these are not in production anymore, but they often pop up on Craigslist for cheap when people upgrade to LCD sets. I'd keep an eye on CL. If you are close to Washington DC I could measure my set for ya and see about hooking you up.

Weasel,

Thanks for the info - I did find a 25" Trinitron flatscreen on craigslist for $25.00.  It's a surplus monitor with S-vid and the picture looks great.  It fits my measurements, so I think I'll be grabbing it.  It has a very small footprint and should look great.  The guy who has it apparently has many more, so as soon as I can get a photo I'll post it with details.

Awesome man, good to hear. I started out thinking I was going to use my Sony as my monitor, but it ended up that I found a working cabinet with a 25" W-G monitor that I'm struggling to make work. If you have a video out card, you can actually get a decent signal to a TV set, providing you use the right settings and drivers. If you have a ATI card, Omega Drivers are great, and there is software that will cleanly uninstall/remove old drivers so they don't interfere.
