WG 25K7193 in Dynamo JAMMA cab, ArcadeVGA for MAME?
« on: September 18, 2007, 09:30:39 am »
Hey all. I have just picked up a decent Dynamo HS-9PB cabinet from a local re-furbisher (Randy in Manassass, VA). It has a WG 25K7193 that works well. Randy tested it for me when I bought it, but the JAMMA game "Rapid Fire" wasn't something I was interested in so I let him keep it, along with the guns. He cut me a price break too, so it worked out for the both of us.

Anyway, I'm using this cabinet to make a MAME station. Don't worry, I'm keeping all of the JAMMA harnesses in-tact!  ;D I've been researching this for a while now, but am having trouble finding certain definitive answers. Here is what I'm wondering, and hopefully you all can help a novice like myself out. My CPU is P4 1.5ghz, 512 ram, mame 09, mala.

1. Since I have a WG 7193 that runs at 15.75khz, I can plug directly into an ArcadeVGA, without a signal amp, correct? I read somewhere that WG monitors don't need the 5v amplifier, the 1v output of the AVGA is sufficient... I found the break-out with R/G/B and two white sync(?) wires. I assume this is what I'll need to use.

2. My power supply is still in-tact and hooked up in the cabinet, and powering everything. I'd like to retain functionality of the marquee light and coin doors/lights, and power the monitor. How can I safely utilize the stock power supply to do this? I read somewhere that it won't create enough load for the supply and cause it to overheat w/o a game board... Any input would be greatly appreciated. I am an extreme novice at electronics, so specifics would be great! :)  (Give me a broken 2-stroke and a trashed carburetor however, and I'll have it running in no time!)

3. Since the game was a light gun game, I have to build a CP. This only requires an I-Pac2, as far as I can tell. I would have loved to use a J-Pac, but there are no controls! Would an I-Pac be my best bet? I've wired one for a friend, and it was fairly straightforward. I am doing a Street Fighter setup, since I plan on playing lots of fighting games with friends.

So, I'm about to place an order with Ultimarc. Would this be sufficient to get rolling?

- ArcadeVGA (AGP, type 2), Ipac2, VGA break-out cable?

All comments and suggestions are GREATLY appreciated, as I'm very new to this and eager to learn!  :notworthy:

Thanks guys!

Any input on the powering of the monitor, and the accessories? Can I use the factory power supply when its not hooked up to a JAMMA board?

Ok, here is an image, hopefully this has what info you all need to help me out. I'm really a novice at electronics, and I've read lots of differing opinions on powersupplies, I'm just at a loss for fact/fiction.  :dunno:  I've detatched the JAMMA loom, there is no PCB, however the marquee lights and accessories are attached to the PS still. Will running the monitor + accessories off the PS with no PCB fry it? Minimum loading? haha

I got my Arcade VGA and RGB cable in today (holy crap Ultimarc is fast!!!) so I'm itching to fire this bad boy up!

Help!

Thanks

Let me try and help you, since I have that monitor in an arcade MAME machine.

1. It should work directly from the arcadeVGA to the monitor, but you'll need to come out with some crazy home made VGA adapter -> jamma connector.  If you're buying the ArcadeVGA, I highly recommend picking up a J-PAC as well.  A J-PAC will give you the following:

- protect your monitor from ever getting more than 15khz
- amplify 1v -> 5v
- allow you to easily connect ArcadeVGA, joysticks and buttons to your JAMMA connection

2. Forget the stock power supply.  It'll waste too much electricity and probably die eventually due to a lack of load on all leads.  Instead, do the following:

- mount PC inside your arcade machine
- mount power bar inside, have button on your arcade machine control power to power bar. (Most arcade machines have external power switch.  Utilize it! On my machine, power goes into this switch, and from switch to a power bar).
- Monitor MUST HAVE isolating transformer.  Connect isolating transformer to 3 prong cable (same cable type as one that your PC uses) and plug that into power bar.
- most marquee lights are 110v AC.  It too plugs into power bar.
- coin door lights run off wire from PC power supply. (I believe they're either 5v or 12v.  You can easily find out)
- set up your PC to boot from restoration of power (in BIOS setting)

Now, all you do is turn on the power bar via remote switch, and everything turns on!  Best of all, no need to use old power supply inside of cab!

3. You'll want to get a JPAC.  If you got a JAMMA arcade machine, might as well use it!  It'll make hookups easier, and the build in video amp is a bonus!

Good luck.

JoeB,

Thanks so much for the reply! I can tell you though, I'm not going to be using the JAMMA harness at all... it has lots of cut wires, and didn't come with any controls (just a blank board), so I'll leave what is in there alone and work around it. What was connected, I've labeled in case there is a day when I want to use it again.

I've opted to get an Arcade VGA (with VGA cable) and an Ipac encoder. I contacted Andy from Ultimarc with my monitor specs and he said I shouldn't need a signal amp for the monitor from the AVGA. The monitor is a WG 25K7193.

That being said, my remaing problem was powering my monitor (and accessories), but it sounds like I can just wire my isolation transformer to a regluar power cable, then plug it in, right? That sounds too easy...  :o

Do you have any advice on where to look for information about wiring this the right way? Would the iso transformer have labeling on the points of contact? Does this require soldering?

Thanks so much, hopefully this will be one of the last questions I have! :) My CP parts should be on the way this week from divemaster, I can't wait to put it all together.

Here's what I used to make my arcade machine.  It's considered the "Bible" by many people here:
