TV Remote Hacking
« on: September 21, 2007, 03:54:42 pm »
I have a chopped tv in my cab that doesn't power on when you plug it.  I was wondering if I could hack up a cheap universal remote and wire a momentary switch to the power button on the remote and mount the board of the remote in front of the ir receiver on the tv.  Then I don't have to have the remote laying on the cp all the time for my kids to break or lose.  I have also looked at an ir transmitter you can hook up to the pc but they are fairly expensive.  I don't have enough electronics background to make one myself.

I don't feel comfortable wiring directly to the tv.  I'm not that confident in my abilities and would rather not blow up the tv or burn down the house.  If I screw up a universal remote I'm out $5 but I get 2 AA batteries for free.  I may try jamming the power button if I can't get the remote thing to work.
