Spinner - Should I/Could I?
« on: September 20, 2007, 09:15:34 pm »
This is getting nuts.

Originally, I wanted simple, swappable panels.  As time went on and I made things more complicated, I realized that I didn't want to swap out a panel for that impulse game of Centipede.  So I squeeze in a trackball - quite well I might add.  Now I've been testing and I feel like I really want a spinner on my panel since I don't want to swap out a panel for Arkanoid/Tempest/etc.   (Also, I don't want to keep swapping for guests).

My question is: Is this placement good? (See pic) I am looking at getting the TurboTwist2 since it'll be the most space-saving unit (and the good reviews).  It fits (where I placed it lands it right above the upper-right of the TB mounting plate).  Any suggestions as to a better location?  (For reference - the panel is 25" by ~10")

BTW - I was able to do a reach test but as my panel is already more or less cut and I'm trying to get the cab done already, I won't be able to do a full on test with everything in place.  I already know the TB and spinner aren't the best in a cramped panel (Golden Tee is not this panel's forte), but any off-the-top-of-your-head concerns before I commit to anything would be appreciated.

P.S. - The pictures of the parts, save for the spinner, are not perfectly scaled.  The spinner is the blue thing that's not a trackball. ;-)

Since Golden Tee isn't a concern, thats probably exactly where I'd put it. If you're getting the weight with the Turbo Twist, just check the depth below the panel before you drill.
I added one to an existing CP also, but since I had more room and do play GT, I put it in the lower right.

m;ake sure you can twist the spinner without hitting the p2 joystick in the way...

i ended up putting mine above p1 buttons and it works very well this way... not in the way of trackball either

good luck

Here are the only places I would consider putting it.  I think I like location 4 the best.

Thanks guys.  Relieved to hear that it's quite doable.

And Kremmit I like placement 4 as well.  Unfortunately, my panel is inside an enclosure (i.e. it doesn't overhang), so I may do what Artifact did and keep the spinner around the left side of  the trackball/slight over the buttons.

I'll do a quick test with cardboard before I go live with it.
