eyedropper in illustrator.....
« on: April 30, 2003, 04:19:11 pm »
I'm trying to trace some artwork for my control panel.  I tried using the eyedropper to get the color from a jpeg, but it doesn't register.  Then I try to use the eyedropper on a layer that I drew and it works.  Does Illustrator now allow you to get colors from jpegs?

I don't think so - I believe it's only for shapes.  I usually have photoshop open at the same time and use that - copy and paste the jpeg into photoshop and note the RGB values.

Thanks for the info....But shame on me.  I think you stated how to do it in yout tutorial and I forgot.  Either way, it sucks that you can't do it in Illustrator alone.

You need to hold down "shift" when you try to use the eyedropper on a JPG, Tiff, etc... maybe it isn't shift, but it's one of the modifier keys.
