MiniMame Pacman / Galaga cabinet
« on: August 15, 2007, 07:21:17 am »
Hi guys,

This is my first post here, but I've been reading the posts and searching this great forum for a couple of weeks now. I've been gathering information and taking advice from posts regarding my new MAME project which I will be starting this weekend (hopefully!).

One of my problems with building a cabinet was space - of which I am pretty limited. The cab will have to go in my home office in my house, which although not ideal, is really the only place I can have one.

I've looked over various cabinets, and have fallen in love with the MiniMame idea, and the Galaga style mini cabinet. I'm also familiar with minimame.com, and have seen various posts about the cabinet details he used, apparently originally put together by 1up.

Anyway, can anyone point me in the right direction for the plans for this cabinet (the mini version) as this is really the only one I can go for.

Thanks in advance ...
Ratzz

EDIT:

Ive found my answer in the below link:

First -- welcome to the boards.

Second -- nice use of search to find your answer!

Thanks for the welcome!

Its funny -- I've honestly been searching solidly for days, and after I posted my message, I thought "one last look" -- and there it was, staring me in the face! Typical!

Anyway, if I can build a cab that is HALF as good looking as the ones on the link, I will be more than happy.

I'll be taking lots of advice from you guys...

Wow - I really really really wish I did some searching before I started my mini cabinet.  Those plans are great.  Good luck - I'll be following your build as I am very interested in these little things.

Thanks all, and I must say how much I like (and am envious) of your mini cab Jeveryh.

Pink may not be for me -- but I hope my cab will turn out as good looking as yours as well!

BTW: I'd love to see any more mini arcade plans anyone may have -- I'm a fanatical planner, and I think any additional plans would help.

Thanks again for the warm welcome!

 :)

When i made my mini Galaga style cab, I used Jakobud's plans and just decided how tall I wanted it.  I made a fraction of (new height)/(original height) and multiplied every number on the plans by that fraction.

I made one by shrinking the Lusid plans from the Project Arcade book to 3/4 of their original size.

Thanks for the compliments!  Just take your time and plan everything out and you will be fine (asking a lot of questions and doing research helps too!).

When i made my mini Galaga style cab, I used Jakobud's plans and just decided how tall I wanted it.  I made a fraction of (new height)/(original height) and multiplied every number on the plans by that fraction.

This is exactly what I did.  I wanted an "80%" cabinet so I took the jakobud Ms. Pac-man plans and shrunk all the dimensions down.  It wasn't perfect due to the weird conversions sometimes (like 80% of 1/16" is kind of tough to measure) but it came out great anyway.  I'll see if I can post my plans...

I did the same thing when I made my mini Donkey Kong cabinet.  It turned out great (I would love to make some more, line a wall with the little mini's, but my wife probably won't let me make another until we have another baby, that was the only way I could convince her to let me make this one "It's for the baby..." is a pretty good excuse :) ).

Here are my plans (ripped from jakobud and scaled down with my crazy math skills)... they kind of stink.
