Bought a nice PC steering wheel. Now what?
« on: July 12, 2007, 05:25:26 pm »
I stumbled upon a Logitech Momo Force wheel at a thrift store and couldn't pass it up.

It's identical to this one. From some of the old reviews, it appears that it originally retailed for $200. I bought it for $9.99.

I've been using it on my Playstation2 with GranTurismo 3, Burnout 3, and Burnout Revenge. Works well even though it's not officially supported. On those games it works identical to my Logitech Driving Force wheel for PS2 that IS officially supported.

Although I wouldn't be able to start on it for a while, it's gotten me thinking about building a driving cabinet again.

Apparently there's a version of Final Burn that has force feedback support for Outrun. Other than that it seems pretty limited. Anyone know of any arcade-style PC racing games with fairly low system requirements that would work well with this?

The other thing I was thinking was possibly having detachable control panels and a bench so that it could be used as a racing cabinet and a sit-down cab (similar to a japanese candy cabs).

One definite plus for this wheel is that it has a threaded hole in the bottom so that it can be easily mounted. Apparently when new it even came with a drilling template (which the reviewers thought was funny).
Brevity is not my strong suit.

I've been using that very wheel on my PC for years and I love it.  It has some of the best force feedback in a wheel I've ever felt.  The faux leather wrapping, swivel pedals, and diamond plate are nice too ;D

ohhh!!!

I have that wheel, the PS2 version... I read somewhere that I can use it on the PC with some MOMO LOGITECH drivers... correct?

Do you know if it works with MAME?

OK I finaly dug for it and it's plugged, with new drivers installed (4.60 from the wingmanteam website) Cool :)

Now... what settings do I need to use for it to work in mame?

Do I need to manually configure all the wheel games to work wiht the various buttons and pedals?

thanks

(sorry for bumping this post - it took me a while to find the wheel)

Interesting...  I might have to look around and see if I can find a wheel somewhere for cheap.  Possibly addition to my cab in the future.

I recently got a cheap thrustmaster gt wheel.  I was planning on making a pedestal and mount the wheel and pedals in that.  Put some wheels on the back so I can tilt and roll it in front and plug in the usb cable.  Think showcase cabinet pedestal but smaller.  There was a guy that made something very similar with dual wheels and pedals but I couldn't find the post.
