Will this work as a spinner?

Found it browing CompUSA.com

I was thinking even if your cant program the X, Y mouse movements to it I can write a program that would perform the mouse movements if a key was pressed.  I can progam this to the keyboard keys and it should work.  DOes my theory sound ok?

I could be wrong, but it looks like it only works as a "scroll" wheel, not as an X or Y mouse, so I dunno.

Ya but its says you can program it to keyboard keys.  In VB6 its only 4 lines of code to activate a X, Y mouse movement when a certain key is pressed.  I think mounting it would be the hard part.  Im going to get one today and see how easy it is to extend the shaft.

Ive read before that the action on this is more akin to a old stereo volume knob- fluid but not "loose" so it wouldnt spin like a tempest or arkanoid knob.

But if it's reasonable priced, might as well at least check it out- who knows

Guess I could always use it as a cool looking volume knob or menu selection knob on my CP.

you could cut out the hole for the knob, then chamfer the underside of the hole so it mates with the 45 degree angle of the base of the unit, then epoxy or construction adhesive it into place (or use some kind of backer plate if you want it removeable..:-)
