Mala gamelists for NES, SNES, Genesis, etc..
« on: August 04, 2007, 06:34:06 pm »
Guys, I appologize, but I can't find this answer. I looked in the Wiki, Mala's web site, other sites, and searched these forums.
How do you generate gamelists for non-mame games like NES, SNES, Genesis, etc..?

MalaGamelist.exe includes the option to define the Mame rom directories, but not for the other emus.
Mala.exe has nice options for Mame, but limited for the others.  I can't get any games added to my new NES gamelist for example.
(I'm using Mala 1.0 RC9)
RomLister only works for Mame as well.   So what do I need to do?

The game list editor is for both Mame and other emus:

Thank you very much SGT, but I have tried this already (with a few other EMU's and roms).  What button actually is used to "generate" the list of games?  Everything I've tried reveals no results.

Do you mean the MAIN game list which is generated from all your available roms?  In Mala, when you go to the emulator in question, right-click your layout  and choose Refresh Main Game List.  It will create a list of all the roms that exist in the roms directory that you designated for that emu.  If it does not work, you need to make sure the rom path and rom extension is correct in the other emu configuration.

THERE IT IS!   Thank you so much!   This info isn't on the Mala site.   I was expecting to see the games show inside the Mala config menus.  Thanks again!

I am backtracking all my steps to see if I missed this "refreshing main game list" instructions, and it doesn't appear to be in Mala's site or in the Wiki. Now that I know what to look for, I can find it in a few posts in this forum.

As a software developer, I applaud Mala's design.  It requires very little (if any) reading of instructions, especially compared to other front ends.   However, this one "refreshing main game list" wasn't readily intuitive without instruction. Maybe, it would be good to add this to Mala's site and the Wiki.  Either that, or this refreshing/generating option could be added to the config menu.

And I think you are the person to do that......... please    ;D

Just use your forum login name and password and edit the wiki all night long  8)

Don't worry too much about the formatting. That can easily be done by someone (probably me) later.

Adding quality content is the most importatnt thing

Cheers

I added a function that checks for an empty main game list and prompt the user to collect the rom files.
