Need tips on painting an Planar 15" touchscreen frame black

Hi all,
Has anybody tried painting a touchscreen frame. Right now it is gray or off white. I'm afraid to put any masking on the screen, in fear of ruining it! Any replies would be greatly appreciated!

I have the same monitor with a different brand name.   I was looking to paint it black but have not yet due to the switches on the side of the frame.  Are yours sealed or are they actual push buttons that move when pressed?   Masking the frame with painters masking tape should not cause a problem with the touchscreen but I did not want to get any paint into the switches.

Sounds like the same monitor. The buttons are located on the side and stick out slightly. Maybe I can mask it to where the buttons start and paint it. Any recommendations for what paint to use. If this does not work then I will look into a bezel or make my own.

Clean the surface really well.  I used an acrylic paint on the last CRT I painted and it is still good after 4 years. Acrylics are water soluable and when dry are very resistant.

I painted the 25" TV I installed in my MAME cab.
I used Krylon for plastics paint.
I also bought some 1/4" masking tape from a hobby shop used for plastic models (cars). It's flexible, conforms well, and is easy to remove.  Once I masked aroung the frame edge, I then used the wider painters tape (blue 3m I thnik) you get at a hardware store to cover the rest of the picture tube. I just applied several thin coats and the results were great!  I did run an exacto around the edge before removing the tape, just to make sure I didn't accidently pull the paint off with the tape.

I'm very happy with the results.

I never thought about using the hobby tape. I will post some pics when completed.

Kylon Fusion is your friend. Its designed for plastic painting. Apply a few light coats so it doesn't run. Let dry and reapply until you have your desired look.

I went crazy today, and decided to decase my Planar touchscreen. I'm now applying thin coats of black Krylon paint for plastic. There are allot of screws to be removed on the case, I'm getting kind of worried it won't work the same. Anybody else decase one of these? Is there anything to worry about? Any replies will help my sanity!

I did not go any further then taking the back and the metal sheild off to trace the power connection.  I could not figure out how to paint the buttons since they seem to be one piece with pressure points like a membrane keyboard.  Did not want to go black as you would no longer see the markings and  I did not want the paint cracking if I flexed the controls.   Fusion paint might be better but did not want to test it on the touchscreen.  End result it is still beige.

The monitor turned out great, and it even works! I sprayed two coats of black Krylon and two coats of clear acrylic. I will now attempt to flush mount it at an angle. Here's some pics.

Looks great. Was the black krylon a special paint for plastic?

Yes, it was Krylon paint for plastic. No need for sanding or primer. I just wait a couple hours between coats. The acrylic clear sealer adds a semi protective coating. I just received my Beta Brite LED sign today also to add to the bling factor on the jukebox. Can't wait to get this jukebox done!
