Artwork Forum
« on: March 02, 2003, 05:34:50 pm »
Seems like there are a lot of artwork related threads lately.  I was wondering if a slight change would make sense.  Of course forum mods are at liberty to manage this board as they see fit.  - It would be great to hear their thoughts on the possiblity.

In my opinion, there shouldn't be a 'Main' forum at all.  Everything discussed on this board fits into some sort of topic.  If all the proper forums were made, then every post would have it's proper place.  Geez I mean how many posts do you see in the 'Main' forum that get moved because they are about Monitors, Software, or OT?  If there wasn't a 'Main' forum for everyone to dump all their questions in then there wouldn't be that problem.  I think we should have these forums:

Software
Monitor/Video
Buy Sell Trade
Jukebox MP3
Board Discussion
Off Topic
Hardware Hacking
Artwork
Cabinets (construction/renovation/woodworking/etc)

There are probably others that I can't really think of right now...but anyways, do you see my point?  Having a 'Main' forum is just like having this one place where everyone is going to just spontaneously post something even if it belongs elsewhere.  I hate having to sift through posts that are about topics I am not interested in.  I'd rather just goto one forum and look at everything there, like a Hardware Hacking forum and not have to worry about sifting through posts about 'router bits' and polls called 'Whats you favorite classic game?'.....

I like things the way they are.  There isn't THAT much traffic that it needs to be split up into a bunch of different forums.  Besides, aren't most of us interested in all topics anyway (and ignore the ones we aren't)?

Good points guys I guess the trick is to balance between logical clusters and a need to have reasonable "chatter" within each forum.

Snaaake, must admint some surprise at your reaction since you seem really into the artwork side of the hobby.  You love kinko's right?

LOL, upon further analysis I put this poll in the wrong topic area!  Guess I better do a job working with what we currently have ;D

At this moment 69% with a few maybes is interesting - not that this little inquiry is going anywhere.

Snaaake - I couldn't agree more about art making a big difference, you can go from ghetto to pro with a little effort and creativity.

I thought another benefit of a dedicated forum would be that all the art and related links that people post would be grouped together in a more tidy corner of webspace.  Of course the search feature may be meeting everyone's needs.

I like to read the main forum to soak up all the new information.  It would be a pain to have to browse through 5 or 6 different forums to catch up on the day's discussions.  This forum doesn't get enough traffic to make it worth changing IMO.

I think a great idea would be a 'daily' forum, all the days posts automatically get crossposted to it, (and their intended forum - monitor,software,etc)...at the end of the day it starts fresh with the post only left in the original intended forum, (not the 'daily')...I know there's forums I never get to (eg Software, mp3,and board discussion) and there's probably really cool stuff getting discussed in there, I just never get around to it.. if it was all in front of me in one forum, I'd be much more likely to see some of the interesting topics from the other forums..

It would take very little disk space, because the posts wouldn't be duplicated as such, (just like crossposting in newsgroups)
idunno..might drag more of us away from the Main.:-)

Nice idea - is this hard to do?  I really don't know much about this sort of thing.  At any rate I manage to find what I need here and run across some interesting stuff along the way.  Bar none this is one of the best boards I've seen.

It wouldnt take any more then 5kb or so disk space since all it would be is a webpage that displays information which is pulled from the database where the original msgs are posted-- not very hard at all to implement either...However, I dont personally think it would be very useful.
