Asking for Control Panel (buttons) suggestions / ideas
« on: May 15, 2007, 03:08:34 pm »
In another topic, Chris had suggested installing a Coin Mech for a real Juke experience.
That would be cool, but I planned to take a simpler / less expensive / smaller footprint route.  I saw a square lit button that looked like a coin slot, so all they have to do is press the button.  I like your idea though.

I'm trying to get some good ideas for planning the "push buttons" (letters / numbers.
Looks like the default WinCab skin takes 4 letters & 4 numbers. I was also going to install left / right arrows and select / clear buttons on the CP. The power button and Esc would be hidden.

I had another thought too.  Can I create a second WinCab.exe (called WinCab2(?)) that I could set different config settings, so I could config as albums and utilize a different skin and button config?  (all numbers?)

I would really appreciate seeing pictures of other people's Juke Control Panels.  PLEASE post 'em!

Not sure where you are, but here in Aus I got my juke buttons here

They have the button you mentioned as well

As for a 2nd config, I believe you can create a 2nd INI file, and then load it by specifying it at wincab startup.
e.g.
"wincab jukebox.ini"
or
"wincab jukebox2.ini"
etc

also, see here for my current jukebox

i am gathering parts together right now to build a new one though

control panel options
i use this setup
it is simple but effective
power-up and power-down are at the left-/right-side of the panel(hidden)
no more buttons used
a<z = prev alpha
a>z = next alpha
 <   = prev page
 >   = next page

dibbler, yep, that's the button.  I saw your cab, looks nice. the CP is what inspired me to ask about button configs. good luck on the new one.

karokedude, good article, i'll reread it and give that a try.

jp, that's very similar buttons to what I had in mind. no need for select and clear? Cab Pic?

total cabinet is stil abit of a mess (need to create something
new) it's an old 19" cabinet
regarding select : use wincab in autoselect (1letter and 1number makes selection)
i use it in my home-bar(usualy at party's)
and let the guests select the songs ,so i don't want a clear button because if someone selects a song i suppose he/she wants to have it played (set maxque to 5 after first party,at the end of the party it stil had 8 hours of music selected)

Also look at the roll-down mech right below that button.  Much smaller than a coin door and you can get them brand-new on eBay for 8 to 10 dollars US.

Groovy Game Gear has a coin drop button as well: http://groovygamegear.com/webstore/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=295&zenid=547e0830608bc831fca42416e4ec3f84

I like the looks of the Mech on the bottom, might be fun to add to the Juke.  hmmmmmmm, $8 - $10, I'll have to check it out.

Thanks for the tip!

I'd still like to see some pictures, although I'm getting a much better idea of what I think I'd like to do.

Hi MPTech,
Although not what you were requesting, I've have my jukebox controlled completely by mouse. Not traditional but very easy for friends to use.
I've included pics. Exit button is a control on the skin with pics and is removable for big parties. I have "lights" (images) for Popular List, Paused and Auto Play states. The skin was designed and created in Paintshop Pro and is available if anyone is interested. I have about 6 original skins and will post in a seperate topic soon.
I'm posting here because you were asking for ideas... not buttons but an alternative..
Cheers
Nigel
Keyboard is hidden inside for config etc. The jukebox has a wireless network card for transfering new albums.
