BMP images don't display

.BMP images appear solid white.

This applies to BMPs in avatars as well as uploaded images in messages.

I can display .BMP images within IE

I tried changing my desktop resolution to 16 or 32 bits.

I'm running XP service pack 2.

Suggestions?

Don't use BMP. They only work in IE as that is the only common browser (I know of) to support BMP natively. My suggestion is to convert to a more common format of GIF, JPEG, or PNG.

I looked at all of those images. They are all posted as JPEG.

Also, keep in mind that the forum software will not let you use BMP as an attachment or uploaded avatar. If it is a linked image though, that could use BMP. But, it's pretty uncommon for that to be used.

My other computer displays the images fine with IE7. Maybe it's an issue with the corporate firewall thinking those images are pr0n, or (unlikely) a problem with IE6.

That is definitely possible.  Images just img tagged in from other sites could be on domains your work proxy doesn't allow.  Your browser won't give a reason for them not being there, it will just show the empty space where they would have been.

Do only use GIF, JPEG, or PNG files, since they are a much more common on webpages.

BMP files was never designed for use with a webpage, since they simply take so much file & traffic space.

Like SF said, you aren't supposed to use bmps anyway.  Simply put they are HUGE!
